Should I get an old MMORPG like EQ?

I loved EQ when I played it a long time ago but I think that there is almost nobody on that game anymore and that kinda defeats the purpose of playing an MMOG. What about Asherons Call?

Also, what promising MMORPGs are currently in production that I can check out and get obsessed with?

There are still tons of people playing EQ but I don't recommend that you play it. As for a game to obsess about, World of Warcraft is looking pretty sweet.

Really? I went back into that game for a little while some time ago and it was pretty empty. Am I just insane or what?

Also I keep hearing about some game called Dragon Empires here. Can someone link me to the official site?

btw, the reason you dont see anyone in EQ is because everyone is > 40th level and so are in corresponding zones. thats why the lower level zones (newbie zones) are empty -- everybody is somewhere else.

Heh! Here's the 100 million dollar question this year!
We recently posted a few interview part for Dragon Empires on mmorpgdot. Another game that went without mention so far is Realms of Torment, which, to me, looks very promising too. Darkfall is another general favorite, and UXO of course.

Naturally, if you just keep a watchful eye on MMORPGdot you'll get all the news about all the games you could ever get infatuated about! Sorry for the shameless plug, but... I can do that here

The only problem is that half of these games are likely to be released within a relatively short time-frame.

Choices ...choices. Hope I make the right choice first time.

And ... I couldn't possibly go back to EQ personally. Been there .....achieved the things I wanted to do ( eg kill Sand Giants single handledly with a lil' hobbit ). I couldn't get into the mindset of 24/7 uber guild raids for lvl 55+ characters. It was a blast up to that point though.

EQ can still be fun, but almost everyone is >50th level. My wife opened her account last week, so I have gotten a chance to look around again (I didnt want her to play alone so I had to open my account, too ). The best thing about EQ right now is that there are a huge number of zones to explore that are empty. Also, they are working on a completely new engine for the game. Not sure when they plan to release it, but when it goes live it should give more life to the overall game. The trade skill interface has finaly been updated, before trade skills where an abysmal task at best. The new system is easier to use, and gives the players some idea what they are doing. A few of my RL friends still play EQ and I can join up with when I want. Mostly, I just like to explore with my wife. She didnt get to play as much as I did.

EQ2 looks like it wont have the same atmosphere that made playing EQ so enjoyable.

Ive changed my freakin mind. Im buying EQ:Evolution tomorrow and playing for the first time. I rather like to solo anyway so i wont be disappointed with the lack of pricks around. Ive never played EQ before so i guess itll be a new experience.

Im just sick and tired of waiting and waiting for a good game to happen. Everybody says EQ1 rocks, so im gonna try it. I cant believe they delayed Ultima X Odyssey to October, thats a freakin lie when they said it will open early 2004. yeah, right...
