Gothic 2: (not really) News on int'l release

The official Gothic 2 site has been updated with what everybody already knows:
while the international community is still waiting for the official release dates to be announced, our publisher jowood is searching for a distribution partner. according to jowood, the release dates will be made known shortly after the signing of the contracts.

both jowood and piranha bytes apologize for the delay. you can rest assured we'll publish the dates and any other important info here, on the official website.
So, it is not Infogrames, not Xicat..at least not at this time, while the int'l version is finished and waiting to be unleashed...

I couldn't wait

Well, I couldnet wait any longer. I ordered the German version from Amazon.de and am playing now for about 1 week. It's the best RPG I have played, ever!
I played Baldur's Gate 2, Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights recently and it tops all of them. The replay value is also very high. When you start over, you can join another guild and get a whole lot of new quests which cannot be gotten by other guilds!
Graphically, it's the best I've seen so far. The atmosphere is amazing, especially when going through the woods, which get darker when you get to the dangerous parts, music gets eerie, leaves rustle under your feet, a branch snaps, animal sounds are very foreboding, and all of a sudden you're jumped by 3 wargs snapping at you. Goose bumps all over you assured.
For once, I'm happy to speak Dutch, because it enables me to read and understand German very easily without much training!

I feel kind of sorry for the developers, who by all accounts made a fantastic game, but so few are getting the chance to play it. And this has to be messing up all of their profit projections.

It was exactly the same for the first gothic...
Maybe publishers think this kind of game is not enough 'shinny' (or too complex, or whatever ) for the average customers...
It's the same for music in radios or TV programs... sigh...

doomed

doomed,

they are doomed...

Gothic 1 was never released in France...
Gothic 2 is done but has no publisher for int'l release...

each time they build a perfect, awesome CRPG they fail to sell well because of publisher problems !

I fear for Pyranha bytes !

Even if it's released, it will probably only be available to certain states and most people probably won't find it in their local stores, just like arx fatalis.

I'll buy this game, but since i dont speak German, i cant play the European version, which i would do if i could, but i cant so i wont. I just dont understand why they dont want to make any money, or why it is so difficult to find a distribution deal for America. I mean, come on now, the world economy isnt THAT bad.

So what? Jowood already made a lot of money with gothic 2 - enough to call it a success. I quess, right now they're considering if the cost/risk of a international release is worth it.
