Ditto for me. I also played POR I on a Mac SE (8 or 16 Mhz) with 20 MB HD and also 1 MB of RAM. Even though the graphics were B+W, the sprites were done so much more cleanly than the IBM version.

Pools Gold Box Series, rocks

Start with the following

Human Fighter
Human Fighter
Human Fighter
Elven Thief
Human Cleric
Human Mage

Go through all four episodes (Pools of Radiance, Curse of Azure Bonds, Secret of Silver Blades, and Pools of Darkness) with the same party. Then see how much stuff you have at the end.

My favorite was Torment, probably followed now by BG2... then Dark Sun. I loved Dark Sun. Alas, I seemed to be alone... and I couldn't keep them publishing Dark Sun products indefinately (though the novel series had a decent run).

It was too different, like Planescape, to survive... ah well... I heard some people are working on a 3rd ed conversion. (Thank you, Wizards, for making the D20 system an 'open' system).

Well, you're not the only one, EX, I liked Darksun a lot. Both the setting, stories and computer games.

It gave an interesting twist to the old races, and the sorcerer kings made for great baddies. Defilers/Preservers were interesting as well, there was truly a reward in choosing the evil path (advancing much faster). The insect people (mantises) are interesting too.

Dark Sun, ironically, was the one setting where I never played an evil character. Something about defiling just struck me as profoundly wrong. I loved the books... in fact, I was writing a trilogy that took place just after the Prism Pentad.

I was on page 140 when my computer crashed and took it with it. No problem... I had saved to disk. I'm a savvy computer guy!

The disk was corrupted.

I was so discouraged that I never wrote again, considering that in the same crash I lost 90 pages of a Shadowrun novel, three chapters of a Star Wars novel, and the plot synopsis for a Werewolf: The Apocalypse novel (a good one, too).

Torment was fun. And if there's a character I want to see in a sequel, then that would be Vhailor! Of course he was a bit difficult, but I like my NPCs headstrong .

I agree 100% with Jaz. Vhailor was a bit hard to get along with, but he was terribly cool. He could have some other reason to go and seek TNO out in a sequel....

Tough choice. They're many great games listed.

I think I will go for the BG series. I lost interest in RPG's in general around ´92 but BG really got me hooked again.

I can understand why people like a game like Torment. It's not like anything else. The story is great and the setting just amazing. Only one thing I didn't like. Since dying wasn't really a problem (for the Nameless One anyway) the combat wasn't really that exciting. You just kept on coming back after been slayed horribly. Too bad the Planescape setting got the boot from Wizards I would have liked to more (same goes for Dark Sun)

Yeah, Planescape and Dark Sun were my favorite AD&D settings. But then again, I like it dark and gritty .

Third Edition is open source. Work is underway to do a Dark Sun conversion (and it's not bad so far).

And that one's for Planescape.

Thanks a lot for the links

I know that 3. edition is open source but had only heard of someone doing Dragonlance.

http://www.dl3e.com/

If you're into Dragonlance give it a try. Don't know if it's any good I'm not familiar with 3.edition yet. Guess I should get to it before IWD2 & NWN are released.

I like the core Dragonlance novels by Hickman and Weis more than I like their personal gaming group's campaign world run amok (not as amok as Greenwood's Forgotten Realms...).

Though playing the entire war of the lance series of modules in one sitting was a blast. We tried for the Guiness Book of Records for longest gaming session... I think we managed 36 hours... (14 year olds. They're nuts.) Looking back it was a ridiculous thing to do... but at least it's better than trying to set the world record for longest finger or toenails. Yuck.

(As an aside, no we didn't get it and yes we killed the Black Dragon in the first module therefore never needing Goldmoon to sacrifice herself therefore irrevokably &(#*&$(#*&$ the game up beyond recognition. We had her blow herself up anyways to kill a bunch of draconians who had mortally wounded Riverwind. it wasn't as dramatic, admittedly. )

i voted BG, but i should've voted other. while all the games i've played on the list are pretty good, i like the D&D adventures i make myself. thats right, veteran DM right here, and proud of it! there should be some kind of quest generator out there so that when you have a damn good storyline, it makes it up for you in CRPG form. they'd sell millions, i'm sure of it.
who wouldn't enjoy the quest for Coilras!? (my first set of adventures)

That would be Neverwinter Nights. Minimal effort for maximum human DMing in a CRPG. If you scripted everything correctly with the built in tools... you could play your own module without having to interfere as DM.
