The Night of the Raven - The review is online! (spoilers!)

As some of you know i have to write the RPGDot review. I thought if I have to collect data and structure it I can also post it here.

-of course more of everything
-heavily changed character development system
-Beliar shrines
-acrobatics is back
-ancient tablets with inscriptions in an old language(s) have been added. Learn the language(s) and you can enhance all(!) major skills with dozens of tablets.
-apple bonus, etc. now less but multiple times
-new teacher limit: 200% Str & Dex
-the forced upgrade of the sister skill (for example 1-h <--> 2-h) is gone. The price for skill upgrades increases now quickly. (1...5 learning points per skill point)
-hunting skills are less expensive
-more different potions can be brewn. Perm potions cost up to 20 learning points.

-a few decent Dex based weapons
-magic weapons (fire bow, magic bow)
-weapons with skill bomus/malus
-Beliarīs Claw. Beliarīs chosen one can load a spell to the sword. This spell can be changed, it causes additional damage.
-item sets with increased effect (belts, rings, amulets)
-will-oī-wisp amulet. Can be taught to find different secrets.
-all spell scrolls only need 5 mana.

-seriously increased difficulty level
-only half the money for items
-perm. potions +3% instead of + 5%
-most monsters are a lot tougher (dragons regenerate HP, seekers are circle 6 necromancers with rain of fire, etc. spells)
-slightly improved enemy AI (better defense)
-amount of XP for kills changed
-some valuable plants have been removed

-some quests have additional solutions
-NPCs have new dialogs
-several loose ends have been tied. They were used to weave the new story into the old one.
-more secrets
-some locations changed
-some locations have to be visited earlier
-short cuts to advance quicker to the new world

-new world Jharkendar is even more spectacular than the old one
-swamp, beach, desert
-spectacular new monsters (fire devil, boar --> runs faster than a human!, stone guard,... )
-many NPCs from Gothic 1 (Cavalorn, the water mages, Mud (well hidden))

-slightly improved graphics and performance

Enough for today.

Stop torturing us English-only speaking people who might not get to play the Raven-y goodness.

Oh THATS IT I'm taking a German class right now.

But seriously I'm stunned ... I expected far less
(just expected new monsters, improved story/atmosphere,
and a bit more difficulty for the craving hardcore player)

I mean the mechanics of beliars claw and will-o-wisp is something
I didnt expect to see. Guess the scripting engine has more than I
guessed up its sleeves .

Love the game-mechanics changes too...

Seems that the gameplay takes a significant step upwards too !
(And that in a game already ahead than most of its peers
in that area, imo).

P.S And I whined before reading this...

Maybe a little bit spoiler!
ehe also Dragons are a little bit more defencive this time its very hard to kill them with a sword and also one question to gorath where the hell did u find MUD ?!?! i play it till now even but no mud i think its somewhere in marvin right ?. And btw i liked the music in the addon its similiar to Gothic 1 music a little bit and u see many creatures who u seen in 1 part that r0xxed.in the addon this time u actually have one more mission for a pickaxe not only to kill with it but actually to work with it [old pirates treasures and pickaxe some gold] . There are also this time combo artifacts that if u collect lets say 3 of those artifacts that onze long time belonged to some great warrior then u become much stronger .
And damn i didnt like 1 thing they killed me in that addon

I'd rather not create a new thread for this, but how does the expansion install? Is it a new 'game' that you load and play? or does it add onto the existing gothic world and you can go and play on it at the end of g2? If you get my meanin'

Well... after installing NotR you'll have to start a new game of GII to play it; you can't use old savegames. It adds into and changes the existing GII world. You're not playing the add-on after the end of GII, but during GII (mainly during the first few chapters).

But you can still play your old save games without the expansion, right?

Why would you even try it? The game is patched from 1.30 to 2.6a in the German version. There is no option to start a new game without the expansion, so I doubt old saves would be recognized.
