Sorry to hear you were in the hospital, Cowman. I hope it went ok.

Welp, i went to the hospital too. And im better now. The psychiatrists are saying that it wasnt related to playing DnD, fortunately. They said i was undergoing mental stress because they had changed my medication and my body was still adapting to it. These are anti-psychotic drugs -- the most potent drugs in the world -- and mood stabilizers. So they have upped the dose of certain ones and took away other ones, and they say they have figured out what was wrong and that the voices i heard were actually the result of my brain chemistry adapting to the drugs. So it wasnt my fault, and i wasnt being lame or anything. Some things you just cant control. So anyway, the medications are almost completely adapted to now by my nervous systems and brain chemistry. The problem with me is that my brain chemistry is odd and different than everyone else, so that when they give me new medications, all sorts of haywire things can happen unexpectedly, because im so different chemically. Kinda cool, eh. Im a chemical freak! woohoo!

So im sorry i quit the other campaign. Ive sent my next character to Val in hopes that it will be acceptable for her campaign. After her campaign i might start another one in the Forgotten Realms, using my website instead of yahoo. That would be cool. I also shut down the yahoo groups website since its useless now . Val has the story down anyway on her site.

Well, in case my character isnt accepted, good luck in your new campaign, Val! I will be studying my remaining DnD books so that i will prepared this time, instead of having to learn the rules on the fly like last time. Hopefully my apology will be accepted by you guys and you will consider joining a new campaign with me after Val's is over (which i hope takes a long time, since i might be part of it, and i need a lot of time to read stuff, since i still have tons of material to go over). So good luck all of you in her campaign, have fun. Im hoping to be a part of it, but who knows, its up to Val.

Ive played Planescape Torment. The storyline was great and talking to NPCs was a blast. Its an awesome game. I like the inner and outer planes a LOT, always have. The setting is cool though a lot different. I guess thats what makes it cool. All the planar creatures coming together in one spot, thats darn cool. Talking about the Blood War and all. Heh.

EDIT -- i wanna be in the Blood War, seriously.

EDIT2 -- looks like she may have accepted my character, woot!

What I don't understand is the whole class deal in determining how many classes of Djinni, or whatever class, I need before I can start getting rogue levels. Could you explain it a bit please?

It works like this... certain races are more powerful than others so certain races have to pay a certain number of levels in order to balance them out against other races. We can all agree that a Djinn is far more powerful than a Kobold, and so allowing a Djinn as easily as allowing a Kobold is unfair to the kobold player.

In the case of the Djinn (I don't have savage species here at work) it's something like 14 to 20 levels to play a Djinn. They are AWESOMELY powerful, with a ton of skills, perfect flight, and a host of powers including the ability to travel between the planes as easily as anyone else yawns.

There's little stopping you from taking rogue skills with the skill points you get as a Djinn... but you won't be a Djinn Rogue before something like level 21... I have a Djinn class progression chart available if you want to play a Djinn. It basically makes Djinn a class, like Rogue, and as you increase in level you become closer and closer to your full power. You're sort of a teenager among Djinn going through your last growth spurt.

Now, if you want to just play something touched by ancient Djinn heritage there's a race called the Genasi, which is the same as Tiefling or Aasimar but works for the elemental planes. An Air Genasi would have a grandmother or grandfather being a Djinn.

So far, I've approved Lawanda's and Lintra's characters. Right now, I'm waiting for Xen's and goshuto's finalized stories for their characters, then I'll decide who else is in.

Oops, sorry, I forgot to do a follow-up on your character. I'll get on it.

The problem with mine is that the finalized story could easily be 200 to 300 pages long.

I'm working on a one or two page outline as well as the crunchy number bits with my greatly diminished free time.

Since I couldn't compress the bio to my satisfaction I took a different approach and wrote up a biography like you'd find in the game... three or four paragraphs hinting at things without coming out and saying anything.

Why should his life story be stamped on his forehead, after all... I want your guys characters to ask about details of his life as the story progresses... without avoiding the need to by knowning every details of his life already.

The most fun in Planescape was when party member said things like "So, I notice you carry around a book...." or such. I want that effect... having to find out about the characters as the game progressed was part of what made the characters in Torment so 'real'.

I totally agree with party members not knowing all of a character's life. However, shouldn't the DM know everything there is to know about a character, including his expansive life story?

No way. I love watching the characters develop in my games. I want to find out as much as the players do... though if they have anything special in their history that they'd like acted upon they have to let me know ahead of time.

That said... of course the DM needs more information. That's why Val got a 5th paragraph that the rest of you guys don't get to see.

Also, character personalities progress and change during gameplay, i have found. The character isnt really defined at the beginning because his actions and tendencies, choices, may define his character far more along the way during gameplay. I think thats the whole point of roleplaying, is to develop a believable character, and watch how he handles things that come upon his path

I think you're talking about character development. I was talking about a character's past history. That could avoid some annoying situations:

DM: You suddenly see a wyvern, a monster the likes of which none of you has ever seen!
Player: Uh, my character has seen plenty of wyverns in his lifetime.
DM: Ah...

There is that... but in this case the characters are very high level. They've already got a 'been there, seen that' mentality to a LOT of things... they're in SIGIL after all. Therefore it's arguably more important to focus on where they are and what they're doing more than who they've hacked down and where they've been.
