What was wrong in Gothic?

If you ask me, I would say - nothing, but I would like to hear (or read ) what you have to say about it, so don't be shy. Thel me what was wrong in a perfect game.

Well, I didn't notice the bug in my game. I have a 1.08.k version.

There was an exploit to become a guard then a fire mage.
I remember seeing one German line in the English version.
Unexplained orb in the Swamp.
Etc...

The ending is not that great.

The ending is good, because it is difficult to overpower Sleeper. Firs you have to defeat Cor Calom, then the fanatics, then the demons and finally...... yes!!!! THE END!!!!!!

i never experienced the winch bug either... altho gorn went crazy in the free mine... but these little bugs don't equal up enough (in my opinion) to make anything wrong on Gothic

The only gate winch that actually worked for me was the main gate to the Old Camp... Oh, and the Mine gate. All other winches didn't shut/open gates when I turned them.

Nothing is wrong with Gothic. It's perfect.

It's perfect because of it's imperfection. Sure, there are a lot of things wrong with Gothic. But a lot of the bugs can be exploited to make the game even more fun.

I love Gothic, and wouldn't change it for the world. (Okay, that's a lie. I would change parts of it. But the game is fantastic.)

Now, first I must say that I am prepared to receive the flames, my flame extinquisher is with me all the times from this moment on and I also have a friend who controls a fire truck that can be used to put out some huge flames...

CONTROLS! CONTROLS were the most ankward thing in Gothic. I'm a person who has played games since year '81. I mean *A LOT* of games, and lately I have used to be able to customize my controls freely...

I know that Gothic allowed us to "customize" the controls but still the way the controls worked was not INTUITIVE. E.g pressing CTRL+UP to pick up items, that is just flawed.

Well, you GET USED TO IT but when you are forced to face it for the first time, it just does not work. It took me several hours to be able to play this game because of the ankward controls.

Otherwise, ther is NOTHING I would change in Gothic. Just controls and how they work...

Difficult keyboard control. It was enough to put many people off playing Gothic... which is such a shame.

It could have been more compatible with most FPS controls, so the transition would be smoother and more familier for most people.

Oh, I have to say another thing...

The marketing and publishing deal was a misery. First they release a german version and then about half a year later they release the english version. That was a shame and was also a "doom" for Gothic. I am really sad that it happend to so great game like this...

There are so many more potential gothic players who know english than those who know German. It is not rasistic, it is just a fact of life. Most of the german games players also know english..

I (as a Finnish person) almost speak finnish better than my native language Finnish.

The marketing deal was a shame

This reminds me of something. Is it really true that the international versions had no mouseview?

I dunno. I play a lot of FPS games, and I didn't really have any trouble with the controls. Although I pretty much knew them before I started the game.

I like reading every word in gaming manuals.

They were difficult, but I don't think that was a "doom" for Gothic. Nor was the release of the English version.

The English version sold nearly the same amount as the German version. And they were a new developing team, so they probably didn't give a lot of thought to the English.

With the flaws in Gothic, they seem to have learned a lot, and are using it with production of Gothic II...

You can't expect them to get everything right. And if I do say so myself, they did an excellent job for their first title.

About the controls, I did not mean they were HARD once you learn them, I just said they were not INTUITIVE. You had to spend some time learning the controls while they could've been easily absorpable like in most FPS games.

I did not have any problems once I spent some time with the controls though

This thread asked "What was wrong in Gothic" and the controls are about the only thing that was not quite right

Indeed. The controls were very odd at first. And it would have been much easer to battle using the mouse, or some other method of controls.
