I've been reading about it for one - two weeks. Pretty scary stuff. Interesting article was posted on vanshardware few days ago, but I haven't been able to find it recently.
Also if you want to be scared more , search and read about
CBDTPA (formerly SSSCA) - somehow similar. I'm not sure, but I probably read somewhere, that Intel and M$ have spoken against it.

Another interesting piece is DMCA. _________________ --=Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=--

I can't beleive it! TCPA is not the only freedom-crushing plan ahead!! Also America, whose symbol is freedom itself is in grave peril!
Something has to be done, but what?? _________________ EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! READ THIS THREAD:

You should read up on Kissinger, especially during the Nixon administration.
Anyways, I see this Palladium business as a joke. The "wired" link that soltys posted is something that scared the living bejesus out of me though. So much so that I erased it from my mind because the alternatives are just too terrifying. I remember the days of the Communications Decency Act in the US. And I recall what it did for the Internet. This is about billion times worse. The end of any sort of freedom, no matter how fake and shallow.

it is just too bad that the "crap" basically has control over every computer (save macs) out there. but, i guess that makes bill a very happy and wealthy man. too bad he is just a man...unlike what he would like to believe he is. _________________ "The origin of things, if things have an origin, cannot be revealed to me, if revealed at all, until I have travelled very far from it, and many revolutions of the sun must precede my first dawn. I guess this would be a bad time to point out that MS is the chief provider of s/w for MacOS platform (or at least has been for many years). MS also owns a substantial sum of Apple shares. And has made several critical infusions of cash into the company as Apple was about to fold, few times.
Apple as a company exists today only because MS wouldn't let it die. Hmmm... never thought of MS as necromencers... _________________ (@) |

We're headed toward 'Big Brother'; eventually he'll be watching everything. My question is not is it going to happen, but who exactly will be the one's watching? And will we be able to watch them back? I hope so, I thought we had learned our lesson from the IRS on what happens when no one regulates a powerful organization. |

Good thing i believe a just God rules this world, else i would be about as paranoid as you guys. Do you really think the US government is gonna sit back and let Microsoft take over? I dont think so. America's govt has alot more power and money than dickhead Bill Gates, and will protect its citizens interests. Chill. Drink some chocolate milk. Dont act like a paranoid schizophrenic (like me). |

Yes, if MS paid them enough money. Contrary to popular belief, US government goes with the highest bidder (why did you think Big Tobacco got away with selling carcinogens for all these decades?), not with what's best for their constituency.

US government's jursidiction ends at its borders. MS has no such inhibitions. US government cannot afford to have MS go elsewhere, therefore they will do whatever necessary to keep MS within its borders. Besides, as I said before, US governement's primary imperative is not to protect its general citizens' interests, but rather interests of a small subset of its population. This is why 17-18% of US foreign aid goes into Israel (of which more than 80% goes for military funding). If anything, this does not protect US citizens' interests but endangers them, as the shooting in LA, yesterday, showed. But let's not turn this into a nationalistic discussion. _________________ (@) |
