Rage Against the Machine: I love ALL their cd's. I also own them all. Not that they have that many..
Red Hot Chili Peppers: Ok, they are somewhat.. inconsistent, but I love them anyhow.
Marilyn Manson: Rock is dead! the Nobodies! Fight Song! Tainted Love! He's nuts but damn he can make music.
Kent: Swedish group. Actually very good!
Rammstein: Not very original, I know, but I can't deny that I like them.
I usually listen to everything but these are the artists dominating my (puny) cd-collection. |

I really listen to whatever goes around. By that I mean stuff that gets played on TV/radio. I stopped buying CD’s because I rarely find more than 3-4 good songs on them. I think the last one I bought was a Propellerheads cd in ’98.
I like almost every genre there is but to mention a genre which haven’t be touched in the thread yet, I’ll go for Acid Jazz or regular jazz for that matter. I don’t really know much about it but that kind of music just makes me feel good. 
...and btw the IWD soundtrack is also great.

I listened to a lot of alternative rock when I was in my teens, Stabbing Westward, Dream Theater, Nine Inch Nails, and Voivod were probably the bands that you'd catch me singing along to the most. Queensryche was possibly the most perfect blend of intelligence, beauty, and angst that I had ever heard and I was horribly addicted to it for a long time. 
Later on down the line, my tastes ran more toward Sara McLachlan, Dream Academy, the Cure, REM, Chili Peppers, and Pink Floyd. Now, in addition to those bands, I listen to a variety of classical music. I've also started to listen to bands like Orbital, Robert Miles, VNV, and the occasional popular tune by Linkin Park and Jewel.
Can't get VNV's "Carbon" out of my head now. Grrr.

What no Grateful Dead?!? Try Dick's Picks 10 for the greatest live recording ever. I listen to everything from Sinatra to Buddy Guy to Dave "Snaker" Ray--but my first love is classical. Many of the suggestions here have been great, but I would also suggest trying:
1) Mahler: Symphony no.2 (if your speakers can handle it--B&W 802s--the last movement is like the end of the world)
2) Janacek: Sinfonietta
3) Copland: Rodeo suite
4) Sibelius: Violin Concerto(Heifetz version) |

I still listen to their albums (Stabbing Westward, just in case someone posts before I finish typing). Their sound was a little to electronic for me, but their lyrics blew me away. I bought both Wither Blister Burn and Peel, and Darkest Days just a few days before the first time I thought I was in love. She unfortunately had no interest in me. The day before I met her I had the worst experience of my life, which was why I fell so hard for her. And while my head was so messed up, I just kept listening to their albums over and over and over, so their songs have a lot of meaning, as well as memories for me.
P.S. Sorry if I'm getting a kind of heavy here, but I just read the 'Here Goes Nothing (caution - long rant)' thread and I'm thinking of how I want to respond to it, so I'm felling a little dark at the moment. |

Garbage is my favorite. I also like Live on Release, Sugar Ray, Kitty, Green day, Matchbox 20, and for some reason Lynard Skynard and Dick Dale.

Wow, I was 'browsing' music, and I never realised how "rageful" some of the new .MP3's have become... I find a few seconds of a loud guitar interlude tasteful, but some of those songs are just... wow. I'm out of it at 14.

I have a great love for music (as perhaps you can tell by my RPGdot username), and am an avid guitarist: my practice regime consists of about a strict five hours every day, incorporating finger exercises, scales, arpeggios, string-skipping, and other delicilously fun guitar geek stuff. Ah, if only it were always summer vacation! My preferred musical listening consists primarily of:

I feel kinda weird to say this, but I like modern country music more than anything.
Though I could really get into medieval type music if it is anything like the first part of the dance scene in A Knight's Tale. I find that SOOO Inspiring, the music, not the scene. |
