Default combat

Yo, I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but : I can't work out how to set default actions for my characters, in combat.

Like, I have to click my bard to play her lute, my mage to cast ebolt, and my healer to cast heal - every damn turn!

If someone could enlighten me, I would appreciate it very much.

Hi kish,

this is not dumb question.
You have to possibilities:

1) during battle click on shield or sword icons, it sets up attack or defend as default actions
2) druing combat on small icon besides to portrait of your character (when large and small game window is used) or on same small icon on partrait of your character (in small game windows is used), you can set up attack, defend, protect etc. as default actions.

First, thanks for your prompt response.

But, is there a way to setup actions/spells such as using an instrument so that they are used every time by default ? Or can i make it so my gadgeteer uses his lightning stick every time automatically? or so my mage casts fireball every turn, without having to press last spell?

Here are some anwers:

- as far as I now it is not possible to set up spell as default action, but you can use cast last spell button
- instrument is only item in your hand, so it should be possible to use it as default attack (same as use sword)
- you can not set "use item" as default action, you can only use "use last item" button

On the use of instruments, what I do is have my bard equipped with weapons (Fang and a sling). I "use" the instruments out of her personal inventory. This makes her default to fight with a weapon, and I always have to "use" the instrument. I never thought to put an instrument into a weapon slot. I assume your bard is in the middle or back, and my concern about keeping the instrument in hand is that if you want to fight the bard may not have a weapon to fight with.

I hadn't thought of equipping an instrument. I wouldn't have the guts to try it either, but that would be an interesting way of allowing the bard to have access to more than 8 instruments at a time.
