It's expensive to learn.

Hi friends.

Just when I thought I understood the learning point system, I get this odd scenario. Wulfgar is charging me 20 LP to train 5% in one-handed.

My one-handed is 30%, and my two-handed is 12%. I thought that the two just had to be within 20% of each other. So from now on when I train in one-handed, I'll have to train in two-handed at the same time...thus it would cost me 10 LP to train 5% in one-handed (w/ 5% automatically training in two-hand).

But Wulfgar is charging me 20 LP to go to 35% in one-hand and 17% two-hand.... 5% each.

Why?

I'm like a level 17 mage.

Learning weapon(s) skills as a MAGE its more expensive than as a Pal./Merc.
And I think that some NPCs are requesting more LP to train you than others.

Ooooohh....so it's more expensive as a mage to train weapons?? It would have been nice if the manual hinted at that, as it only adds more confusion.

I guess if I had known that I would have trained my melee up a little more before joining the monastary.

Thanks.

Everything but mana is 2 to 1 to train for a mage. Pain in the bhind if you ask me.

um, can someone explain this whole system of points to me? That was all REALLY confusing. Why can't it just be like gothic 1? ya know, 10 pts for everything. Although this percentage thing is cool it's confusing too. I didn't get it when cord(I THINK it was Cord.) explained it to me in the game.

I've been training completely in one handed combat and once I reached 30% it went from 10 LP for 10% to 20 LP for 10%. I just figured it doubled once you went from rookie to fighter and I figured it would probably be 3 to 1 when I reached Master. Is this how it works? I assume not from what you guys said although I didn't really understand it at all.

By the way, I guess guild matters from what you guys said. I'm a dragon hunter(former mercenary).

Guild matters not -- except mages cost double whatever for anything not mana, or magic to train. It's the same for either weapon type. If you specialize, as long as you are the same rank in both 1H and 2H, you'll train 1 to 1. Once you reach the next rank in 1 or the other (fighter), it becomes 2 to 1 on the specialized weapon type until the other weapon reaches fighter. Then it goes back to 1 to 1 until you reach master. Then 2 to 1 again until the one you are not training reaches master. If you look, your 2H is going up even though you are not specifically training it. It works the same for bow and xbow.

Clear as mud right?

I don't know if it's faster (probably not), but it's clearer when you train to bring 1H up to fighter, then 2H up to fighter. Then choose which one you want to be master in and continue that way.

though as a novice you can learn fighting skills at a low cost

P.S: if you really want to become a mage just learn runes or get more mana (which you can get at a low cost as a mage)

if you want to learn fighting skills become a mercinary or join the militia -
if you wanna learn runes or mana you should become a mage -
if you want both try learning high fighting skills as a novice and then learn the rest

There is no point in learning fighting skills as mage, because monsters in later chapters become to tough for you to melee-fight them. I rather just concentrate on my mage skills, I do that in every frp.

hey, thanks for explaining. wow. that makes total sense now. ha. Is that how it would work in real life you think? I would think so a little bit unless it's like trying to practice baseball and golf at the same time. lol. That gets tough.

Even as a novice learning fighting, strength and dexterity costs double the amount of learning points.
