| Increase AGP aparture size --> smooth gameplay ! |

Cant remeber where I've read it - might even have been in the forum.. BUT upping the AGP aparture size to 256 made Morrowind run silky smooth on my PC - I even up'ed the view distance without any noticable slowdown..
I guess it makes sense as the textures prolly takes up a lot of memory on the GFX card - and the stuttering could be caused by textures being swap from disk -> gfx card instead of AGP aparture --> gfx card !
My gfx card is a 8500 btw. and I've got 512 MB system mem. - Was using 128MB AGP aprt. size before.

That is an interesting idea. I will have to try that. It would make sense that the more memory going through the AGP aperture would increase performance, however, it is proven that the game seems more dependent on CPU cycles than vid card...it's worth a shot though because I know that I am currently on 64MB size. |

At Startup press Delete and you'll enter your BIOS. somewhere in one of the menus you'll find a AGP Aperture size. Just use page up and down to select 256. |

Usually "Windows and system" tuning tips say:
"set aGP Aperture size to 2x memory of your graphic card". |

My Radeon 8500 has 64 MB RAM ! What I've heard is that Morrowind is designed to take advantage of bigger Aparture sizes (or might even require it??). I've tried TONS of tricks to make Morrowind run faster on my system (high-end) - Switching from FAT32 to NTFS appeared to yield some performance improvement (at least less stuttering) - but increasing my AGP Apart. size to 256 really did the trick for me. Plz post your result if you decide to try it ! |

I tried the trick. I am not sure the game is fluider but I sure have better textures now! especially in towns! great tip
BTW if you play withtout pixel shading, the game seems much more fluid |

I wanted to try it. I got in there but it offers me only 2 settings , 32mb and 64 mb. I couldn't find a way to change it manually. 
I'm using a Dell 4100 P3 933, 512 mb RAM, ATI RADEON 32mb DDR, Soundblaster Live, WindowsME.

You didnt mention you motherboard. This motherboard has BIOS and if you can or can not and how you can do it depends on version and type of your BIOS. |

I have an Asus A7V266-E with the 1.04b BIOS and Geforce4 4200 64MB and was able to increase the aperture size from 64MB to 128MB but no higher. There was no noticeable change that I could see and no framerate increase. Maybe this works on lower end systems only. |

I tried it last nite and it is faster.But only having 256mb of ddr i using more swap but np as i have my swap file on another fast scsi hdd.

ok maybe someone could help me out here. i have a kt133pro board and can easly increase the AGP aparture size to 256 but when i increase the agp rate to X4 in bios, it doesn't work in windows. sandra tells me my gf2mx is still running at X1 and the hercules tweaking utility has the X2 X3 and X4 options dimmed. what's up with this? i can't understand it.
