FAQ or walkthrough or strategy guide?

Hi!

In the last days a number of community members requested a Gothic 2 FAQ be published. Such a task is more complicated and more time-consuming than it was for Gothic. A few details:

-137 quests, some of them guild dependent and/or with multiple solutions
-6 chapters
-secrets everywhere (caves, valuable plants, equipment,...)
-about a dozen maps will be required
-many screenshots too (for switches, etc.)

Itīs unlikely the two current GothicDot editors or the upcoming third will find the time to write a guide with probably 100+ pages from scratch.

Any comments, ideas or suggestions?

Who finished G2 and raises a hand gets a part to write?
Ofcourse after it's finished someone would have to read the whole thing to make sure it makes sense

post a list off all the quests in the game, and let ppl offer to make a walkthrough for that quest... then edit the posted list when the position to write a walkthrough for that quest is filled... that way the workload will be shared evenly.... once a quest walkthrough is done post it on a list in this forum and let ppl check it and suggest additions etc...

also add to the list ideas that you want in the FAQ such as combat guide, guild guide, path guide etc...

i dont think it would be possible to meet the demand anytime soon unless a lot of people offer up their services

This post is a list of all the quests in the game, although it's in German translated through Babelfish.

Well, I am alive, and I have already promised back in the G1 days I would complete a complete FAQ for gothic 2. It will be a nifty task, since G2 is larger than G1, and you need to play it through at least 3 times to get it all, but I have already started, and its vacation soon.

Need to solve the game myself ofcourse.

Best Regards
JemyM

Creating a quest list and let it be filled up by forum members sounds like a good idea. The German list doesnīt do the trick, we need the exact names.

Translating a German walkthrough is no option. Of course I know all the sites and many of the webmasters, but while their efforts get the job done (okay, a few ideas are very nice ) I think we can do better than they did because we can avoid their organisational mistakes. Using their material would require their permission. Uploading copyrighted material without it is something you cannot do in a RPG community where each one knows everybody.
The reason why I think we can do better is simple: We now have the opportunity to offer .pdf files for download. In a .pdf itīs possible to combine the size of a FAQ with the navigation and layout of a site.

@JemyM: This will be a tough job. A guide in the spirit of your Gothic FAQ could easily exceed the 200 pages.

Total in list: 145 quests
_______________________________________

All the names are official -- even the typos -- they're taken from Gothic.dat file. Majority of the titles are quite self-explanatory. I've added parentheses for the ones that need a few explanations. For any experts here who are bored, please feel free to add details on this list. This will be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance.

@Gorath: If you don't like the list, please get rid of it. It's a waste of space if it has no purpose at all. Thanks.

Well, I will probably go by my old setup. Giving a description about all NPC's in the game, where to find them and what quests they are related to. Giving a quick walkthrough to join each of the three guilds. Giving hints upon to become warrior, mage, thief, listing a bunch of items, monsters and their statistics.

Best regards
JemyM

You are always the core spirit of all English G2 gamers. No matter how you choose to make your FAQ, we'll always support you to the best that we can.

P.S. Don't worry about the stupid list. Most of my efforts are futile anyway.
