OT? Daggerfall freeware!

Since this game is not commercially available (to my knowledge) how about asking them to release it as freeware (as sierra did with Betrayal at Krondor for the release of Betrayal at Antara)

Power to the people???

I got it as freeware, don't have it anymore tho. Legal? Maybe (not).

True they don't sell it, but they still own the copyright so by downloading it without paying Bethesda you (and I )would be breaking US and international copyright law.
and I think they still sell it on ebay.

On a related note, i used to own the game[/i]

yes, I know. I am dtrongly anti-pirate, but thats why Im request an offical freeware release fo the game.

And while Im sprouting my opinions......

You should be able to buy CD-Keys online at a reduced cost as many people can burn a copy for you. This cuts the distributers costs without people resorting to piracy.

Just for old times' sake, I installed, patched, and booted up Daggerfall yesterday.

Trust me - it's not as pretty or as fun as you remember it.

There was quite some discussion about this on the official elderscrolls forums, and it sounded like it wont happen, not anytime soon at least. consider that until recently they were still selling Arena! I think its mostly legal concerns that keep them from doing that, the responsibility for support, the fact that third party code is in the game (the sound system I believe) and so on. Bethesda specifically requested most abandonware sites to take the download down again, and most followed suit.
I really think the gameing industry should get together and create a legal "old games library" where all the old classics are deposited. THey could charge a small "membership fee" that covers their expenes (and maybe even gives a small profit) for the priviledge of downloading the games.
