The coolest intro movie for a game?

What do you think is the coolest intro movie for a game? (It doesn't have to be an rpg)

Personally, I think that Thief 1 had a killer intro.

I liked Thief's intro too, and the one from the sequel.
Outtrigger (on Dreamcast) had a great intro, even though it had nothing in common with the game! And Tenchu has possibly the best intro movie I've seen, but again bore little resemblance to the game.

There was a similar thread a few months back and somebody (can't remember who, sorry ) uploaded an avi/mpeg of the C64 Last Ninja 3 intro!

Both Gothic games had great intro movies IMO. (Gothic 1 intro was better.)

And i liked UT-2003 intro movie.

The intro for INDEPENDENCE WAR, (PC space-combat sim, 1998) is hands down the best game intro I've ever seen. Although a little pixelated by todays standards, at fourteen minutes in length, it seemed to belong in a theater as opposed to a computer game. Its sequel INDEPENDENCE WAR 2, THE EDGE OF CHAOS (2000) was excellent as well, and over ten minutes in length. In fact, in my opinion these two games are the best space combat sims ever made. Unfortunately their ridiculously high difficulty level puts them lower on others' lists.

The graphics are now VERY dated, but I loved the intro to Master of Orion. Short, but man did it set the mood!!

Its kind of dull now, but at the time I was very impressed by Syndicate. Mainly because I was running it on a Comodore Amiga 1200 from 3.5" floppies.

P.S. Cannon fodder was cool also. First game I ever heard that had human voices in it. (Singing in the intro).

Dunno about you corwin, but from the Arx intro I expected the Ratmen to be pivotal in the plot, but then they just kind of faded into obscurity as the game went on. Still, I did like the intro. The ratman's fancy footwork was cool (if only his mission was a playable extra, eh?)

I found so little to do (besides fight) with the Ratmen, I tried setting challenges for myself. Out-sneaking them was rewarding enough, given how stealthy and alert they are, but try pickpocketing one! When I finally managed it, the lousy rodent had nothing on him, so I put a fish in his pocket. He didn't notice. Made me think, planting things on people would be a great objective for thiefly missions, and could be implemented in any RPG that has pickpocketing.

Nothing better than Warcraft III intro movie. It not only gets my full attention and watching it in awe, but also wanted to pick up an axe and joint the Orc running into battle. The quality of FMV, in term of animation and cinematic atmosphere really show up in Blizzard games.

Some Japanese games also great FMV. The end game cut-scenes in Aquanox 2 also interesting.

I agreet the Warcraft III intro was amazing. The picture was so clear I could barely believe it. Gothic 1's intro, although less pretty was still awesome, especially because it led to such a great game but introduced the game well.

Aquanox 2 has a great intro too (only heard it with German voice-acting (demo) and without understanding it all ). Still thinking a buying the full game, now I have a computer that can handle it.

Piln, I agree with your point about the Ratmen disappearing in the plot, but since the topic was just about the intro, I thought it was great, including your character being dragged to a cell; sort of set the tone.

FF8's intro was pretty cool, but I must say it's "outro" was the most boring thing I have ever seen.

That may be, but my girlfriend loved it (she loved the story and characters, too... and by the end was even addicted to junctioning, though she would still have me handle it or spend a few hours playing cards or leveling up her game from time to time. Anything not 'story' really.)

As always, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is high up on my list. Temple of Elemental Evil, Diablo 2 (every FMV in D2 was great, especially Tyriel in Tal Rasha's Tomb), and Starcraft I really liked as well.

And Freelancer. A lot.
