potion shortcuts in G2?

Anyone know if there's item shortcuts to healing potions, mana, torch etc? I hate having to go to the inventory for these thing everytime! Can't it be assigned a key like primary and secondary weapon etc?

Well, in Gothic 1 you have to use all the numbers for weapons and magic, but perhaps the shortcuts could be placed on the num pad.

I don't know if it's a smart thing to do though, because it could get pretty complicated.

It's only fair you have to go to your inventory for potions, food etc.
In the real world, you would also have to stop up, and roam your backpack for stuff like that. Of course, a belt could hold these items handy for you, but I think a belt wouldbe a disadvantage in Gothic's atmosphere.

by shortcuts do you mean "quick keys" or "hot keys"?

Well, in real life we couln't carry 648 swords in our bac-pack either.

But surely its not inconceivable that if we knew we could be going in to battle we might need a life potion and we could have one or two handy, strapped around the waist or shoulder?

I don't think shortcuts to these things are unreasonable.

Potion shortcuts - I dont know, but surely not shortcuts like in Diablo
when pressing a number you drink a potion without even stopping
...well the same thing is when you drink from inventory...
Maybe shortcuts would be nice but maybe it would make
the interface too complicated - but if you could assign just one key
to one potion then ...who knows...

At first it shouldn't be impossible to implement shortcuts for potions.
But IMHO it's good that you are forced to spend some time to use it.
If you fight against one who/which is too strong for you -- run away.

Well, how about 2-3 potions on the belt. When those are used up you'll have to go to inventory and refill the belt.

If I recall correctly, somebody in the TomTom thread suggested just that to him, and he (TomTom) said it was a good idea and he was going to suggest it.

Oh hey! That is good news! But I don't suppose Tom Tom will be getting back to us on that?

How about putting scrolls in your belt too.

you already have short-cut keys for scrolls. Watcha' talkin' about?

Torch would be nice though. So I don;t have to go dig in my pack for one everytime I drop one! And no... it's not that I'm clumsy... you automatically drop the torch when you draw your weapon. And you can't pick it back up again either!

Actually you can pick it up again.

Hm fighting with a torch on fire would be a nice thing
- small fire damage - one of the first weapons... or just to scare off
animals - that would be nice!

And about potions - since you can brew your own potions it would be
great to keep an empty bottle after drinking the potion...

Hey... that's an idea! Holding a burning torch while fighting. Actually, we should be able to light our arrows before we launch them... and watch it burn the house down, or watch the victim running for the lake as they're being consumed by the flames.
