AC2: Wandering Scribe on Town Invasions

A new Wandering Scribe article has been posted at the official site. It deals with Town Invasions. BTW: I spent some time to download the free 15 days trial for the game, and so far my first impressions are quite positive.

I downloaded the trial myself and played all 3 chars. to lvl.10 in melee and magic. The Tumerok in missle as well. The game is better then when I played in beta but there are still lag probs. when a few hundred are on at the same time.Actually what I really don't like is that some quests, after the first few, force you to form a fellowship in order to complete the thing, otherwise you'd have to come back at a much higher lvl. to do it yourself. It still boils down to a lvl. treadmill but at least the first few lvls. are fun. I wish I could find a mmorpg where you can really play on your own and, playing carefully, have the same chances as a group. they all say you can but thats not true. Sooner or later your forced to bring along help.AC2 is AC1 with better graphics or DAOC with a different engine. Their all the same really. Maybe EQ2 with its wider range of chars. will be more fun.

I still long for the old AC1, where town incursions really were battles. They were not a rearrangement of respawn points.

In AC1, I was at Ayan Bakur when the Virindi raided. The town was in chaos. And when it was over, we felt we had beaten them back (even though the outcome was prescripted). That's how raids should be.

I don't even care about the towns in AC2. They're empty of NPCs and I can't even explore the interiors of the buildings. If they bust it to ruins, it will only be rebuilt later by the devs.

To sum up, I still don't feel like I'm making a contribution to the world.
