Which is your favorite installment of Ultima and why?

Ultima Online is not an option.

Oh man, this question is too hard. Ultima 5 got me into playing RPGs. Ultima 4's effort to make you choose to live a moral life in order to win the game was ground breaking. Ultima 6 was just plain fun to play. Ultima 7 and Serpent Isle had such amazing worlds and NPCs. Gah! I can't choose just one!

As usual, I'm in total agreement with Val, and she didn't even mention the 2 UU games!!

I loved VII(sorry I love using roman numerals). It was simply flabergasted(my most interesting word contest winner) with the idea that every NPC had their own life that they lived day by day. I loved the idea of having to eat to survive. The idea of your AI companions controlling themselves. I know the others had these as well, but VII just stood out to me the most. *Snuggles copy of Ultima VII*

*Raises an eyebrow and gives Dunmer King a worried look.*

Getting a little too friendly with that shiny box?

Err...no, I was just...uhh...appreciating the greatness that is Ultima VII. Yeah, that's it. The game should feel honored(heh)that I love it so, no game has won my respect as much as VII did.

Got to go with the Underworld's both I and II. Actually Savage Empire was a fun game too.

Underworld I. That game was my very first CRPG. At that time I didn't know it was an RPG. I didn't know what an RPG was for that matter. All I remember is being glued to my monitor for hours playing that game. Got me hooked on CRPGs forever.

Personally, Ultima VIII is my favourite. I've been to forums where people whine and moan about how it doesn't have gambling and a cooking system and such, but I think it's the most entertaining of the series. Not to mention, it looks deadly. I had the most fun playing VIII, and I truley loved the world of Pagan and the characters in it.

Other than that, the Underworld games are my favourite. Stygian Abyss most likely. I love first person games like that, which is why Arx Fatalis is one of my favourite games of all time... but that's off topic.

First person rules.
Speaking of which I have great expectations about Grafan.
I hope it will be finished.

Ultima 7. It is still an amazing game.

When I first fell into that game my batting average dropped dramatically and eventually I just stopped showing up for my baseball games. There were too many important things in Britannia to worry about a few baseball games... *sighs nostalgically*

What about Martian Dreams?

Martian Dreams is my favorite (I'm a whore for victiorian backgrounds, what can I say?) and best of all: IT PLAYS UNDER WIN XP!

I've played all the ultima's except for 9.

In order:
Ultima 7 - great gameplay and music. Music was so good, I put it on another cd for my own listening whenever.
7.5 - Did you know that each of the portraits used in 7.5 reflect a programmer? Learned that when I worked with Andrew Hoffmann in Dransik. Sadly, the site went down about 6 months ago with all the photo gallery, comparing the real person to the characters. :/
Ultima 4 - I think this is the game I replay the most. VERY good replay value.
Ultima 3 - Music, was the first Ultima I played
Ultima 2 - Let's go take a spaceship, shall we?
