Arcane Archer or Weapons Master?

I'm about 1/2 through SotU (Valley of the Winds) and I'm at Clvl 10, Fighter 9/Wizard 1, Lawful Evil Elf. I had been planning to go AA, but I'm thinking of WM. Currently, I'm equipped with Blackguard Armor, Katana of the North, Tower Shield, and some general goodies bringing my AC to 30. My Dex is 20, though, and I'd like to be able to use it. I guess I'm approaching the point of fishing or cutting bait, and I'd like some advice.

I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode. I think it was called, "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."

Well, which do you like better, filling your enemy full of arrows or slicing them to ribbons? It really comes down to how you like to play, then build your character with that in mind.

I fiound that in the single player mode games an archer main character ends up wading knee deep in the dead, sword swinging.

Which is why Point Blank Shot is required for AAs, I guess....

Hmm.

Thing that concerns me about weapons masters is that it seems their prime benefit isn't terribly useful. WMs are all about critical hits, doing hundreds or even thousands (with some of the level 40 builds I've seen) HP damage with a single blow. Thing is, by the time the WM has developed to the point where those criticals really mean something special, a sizable portion of the monsters are immune to critical hits. It's a lot like the rogue's backstab ability-- sounds really cool, but has only limited value in practice.

Of course, I'm no guru...

I've got bad news for you Butt of Malmsey, but unless the rules have changed in an update I don't have, you are limited to 3 classes.

Don't feel too bad, this happened to me. I was a pally/fighter type and figured that I'd pick up a few levels of Champion of Torm whilest building all the feats required for weapons master, just to discover that I could not take WM at all. So I wound up dumping my extra level into CoT (to 10) then fighter or pally depending on my mood (mostly fighter I like their epic level feats more). It turned out to be a truely wicked build.

I know I'm limited to three classes, which is why I cannot be both a WM and an AA, and have to choose one or the other. I'm only a Fighter/Wizard with a character level of 10, man.

Weapon masters do lose out in situations where they cannot critically hit, it is true... though the powers that let them whirlwind attack or hit for full damage never go out of style.

Arcane archers are great for turning stacks of normal arrows into stacks of +5 arrows and for looking cool shooting a weak fireball off an arrow. The power that shoots everything on screen is fun to look at, too, but gained at such a level where that didn't really do anything except make a bunch of creatures barely wounded.

@BoM - You know, somedays I just can't read. When you'd written Clvl 10 I read it as Cleric 10. D'oh. *Lintra smacks his head with the butt of his palm, while thinking it is a good thing it wasn't a Butt of Malmsey*

I can see where you would make that mistake.
