Help, new rig won't let me play! |
|
Ok, I am despirate here. I just got new rig and now NWN is running like you know what. I have spent hours reading at the official site, adjusting ingame controls, ect with no improvements.
Here are specs:
Asus MB
AMD 64 3200 cpu
2GB PC 3200 (DDR 400) Memory
GeForce FX 5700 256MB DDR Video
250 GB HD
1GB RAM
16xDVD+/-RW Double layer ROM
Built in sound with MB Realtek 8 channel ALC850
WinXP2 home
What is happening is lag and stutter in both sound and grapics. All the drivers and DX are updated. I defraged, ran spyware, ran virus scan, and tried every setting in the game to fix it. I am at a loss and hope someone here knows a few steps to try to fix this.
In the mean time I will be reinstalling the game to see if that might help. I had hoped to play on online session today but not with this mess. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. HELP! _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Do you only have problems with NWN or maybe also other games?
I think you should try to isolate the problem whether it's the sound card or the graphics adapter. Try to disable the on board sound card and see if the graphics is still choppy. I guess it can be done in the BIOS and/or the control panel.
Try to lower the acceleration for the graphics card and the sound card.
For sound you find it in the Control panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices ->
Volume tab -> Speaker Settings -> Advanced Button -> Performance tab
For video you find it in the Control panel > Display -> Settings tab ->
Advanced button -> Troubleshoot tab.
Here is a link for downloading the newest drivers for your sound adapter:
http://www.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=A8V-E%20Deluxe&Type=All
Download the file ALC850.ZIP
Here is a link for downloading the newest drivers for your video adapter
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.89.html
Try these possibilities and report your results. Good luck. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

Thanks, I did all that. Lowered acceleration, turned off sound, set all settings to nothing, and defragged, turned off all other programs. And still bad lag in video with stutters and same in sounds. I am not sure what to try now. Going to install a few of my other games and see if it is same with them.
Any other ideas would be of great help. Reading a million posts on the NWN site is a pain, and atari is worse.
Thanks for the ideas so far. Keep them coming someone. lol _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

Asus TeK "K8N" AI series
Socket 754 for amd Nvidia nForce 3 250
System bus 1600MT/s
DDR400
8 channel audio
Amd Athlon (tm) 64 Processor 3200
There is something on there about agp 8x
Chipset is NVIDIA nFORCE3 250
I sure hope you can tell me something I can understand. I have tried a lot of stuff from the NWN help site, but to no avail. Updating drivers shouldn't be needed according to puter guy I got from, as he did that after building it. Messing with ini files in NWN is not my area of expertice, so I am afraid to just guess.
Reading posts not specificly related to my machine makes trying stuff scarry. Thanks for the offer Wulf. This is my only online game and I am having withdrawal. lol
Decided to post the dxdiag list as well. I installed and played VtM: Bloodlines without a glitch, so I am really thinking it is NWN now. I sure hope it can be fixed. Anyway, here is some of the dxdiag stuff.
EDIT: Now that problem is fixed I deleted the two pages of info I had here.
Sorry for so long a post, but figured the more I put up, the faster someone might see an answer. Thanks again. _________________ =Member of the Nonflamers Guild=

O.k Cm, that was good info's Peter gave, i've had a quick look at your mobo manual, try also the following, maybe your puter guy could do this, if it's too much for you.
A quick look at the your spec's shows 12 months old graphic drivers, many contention issues (flat screen clone mode etc') were sorted out with more recent drivers (71.89 looks o.k) you would have to "roll-back" your current
56.73 driver to win/xp generic (default) then remove the 56.73 to a safe/folder, or even delete, then reboot.
Now install the downloaded driver>> http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.89.html then ensure you reboot.
Now it is important to re-run the directX 9.0c setup.exe, this auto (re-checks/install directx) then reboot.
Next run the mobo' install cd, on the menu select Nvidia chipset drivers and intall to default location which should be the same as previous location.
---------------------------------
After rebooting, go to contol panel/system/advanced/performance (settings) and select "adjust for best performance" (if it isn't already) and ensure all the squares are unchecked.
Generaly, thats your hardware setup/checked. - - There are other settings to check-out if needed, (bios setting, apperture = 256 (1/4 of your system 1024mb ram) and others but are trivial compared to the above.
You have a great rig here Cm, hope all other game are running without similar problems.
I also suspect NWN - could be the culprit, maybe check out a few troubleshoot forums/faq's
i had a quick look here, but there are others.

Wow Wulf, that was quite a post for a 'quick look'. Glad it worked. CM w/o NWN is .... well .... unthinkable *grin*
@CM - Glad you have NWN up and running again. I know how frustrating operating system problems can be. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=
