When is a sequel ever as good as the original? Gothic was quite different from any game I had ever played, and this was perhaps the greatest part of the game for me. Gothic 2, no matter how good it is will bare many similarities to it’s predecessor; so it simply won’t have that squeaky clean new feeling. Though I have every confidence that Gothic 2 will be a great game, I am a realist, I have no intention of being disappointed in a great game because my hopes where too high.

Hey there are great sequels. Morrowind for an example (not to everyone altough ). I thing the size of Gothic II and the living world in there combined with a great fabule and better (than in GI) graphic will make it a hell of a lot better game than GI.

i think movie sequels are never better then the first but not games. Diablo2 was WAY better, and Gothic 2 has already won an award for best rpg!

Well, I wouldn't say the greatest RPG of all time, but I will say that in the last 10 years, Gothic is an RPG that pushes other RPGs where they have never gone before

in my opinion - Gothic has all the trademarks of having been developed as a very large risk, a try-out, a have a go, and a last ditch effort to make an impression to RPG in general

Gothic did just that

Gothic2 is run by the people who thought just like what I think they thought just like above

it'll be something special I think (but nothing overwhelming, or hyped, or fantastic)

that's where and how the best games are made

"don't be a great man, just be a man"
which coins my meaning as easy as I can get across

OK, I've got it. Games that are made as - a good game played for fun, when you don't have nothing to do - are the most likelly to become the best game of the year/decade/millenium/(here is the place for your note ). OK, Gothic II will be a fun game to play in weekends but nothing else

I can sincerely understand why it actually won't be better to an original fan of the first game. The first experience of something original and satisfying usually can't be equalled.

Even BG2 was more engrossing for me than NWN although NWN had all the right bells and whistles.

Gothic is one of my favorite games of all time. While Gothic 2 may not have a spanking new feeling, it has the one we all know and love. So I am sure that all of us will get hours, upon hours of grand enjoyment from Gothic 2! Its gonna be great! All hail Gothic 2!

Gothic is Number 1 on my list. The World had a realistic feel to it. Monsters and NPCs seemed alive. Monsters would attack NPCs and Vis Versa, Weak NPCs would run from monsters. Unlike games such as morrowind where the npcs are like paper bags blowing in the wind, they lacked direction. Just walked back and forth with no real perpose. Gothics people seemed like they would continue living even if the player wasnt around. I know if Mud wasnt bugging me, he would be off getting on Snafs or Fetchers Nerves.

I agree.. even though Gothic II seems like a truly great game, I just know something will stop me from getting the true Gothic feeling..

I've played the demo, and yes.. it's simply fantastic, but I miss spiritual warriors such as the Templars.. other than that, I can't think of something to pull it down, but I have a feeling I'll find something sooner or later.

PB might surprise me though, and create the best game ever..

Example of sequals better than originals:
Space Quest 5 is better than SQ1
Larry 6 is better than Larry 1
BG2 is better than BG1

Example of sequals that aren't anywhere near the original:
NWN.. sorry bioware, but this isn't BG2..
Red Alert and Tiberian Sun - not anywhere near C&C1, Tiberian Dawn
Might and Magic 9 is a good game, but comparing it to the greatness of MM6-8 is just wrong..

Was Tiberian Sun better than C&C1? No, it didn't have the original "C&C feeling", and I fear that Gothic II will suffer the same fate, although PB might surprise me.. (they certainly surprised me when I first bought the game.. I never heard of it before I gambled, bought it, and was shocked when I found out how great it was.. )..

So who knows.. (I do know that I like the Paladins' Heavy Armor though.. it's NICE)..

I totaly agree with you.

Gothic 2 will not be as good as gothic 1. The Reason is Gothic 2 will not have the suprise factor that made gothic 1 so great. Gothic 1s storyline was something new to me, Gothic 2 will extend apond that but will not shock me, i kinda already know whats going on and what i have to do.

But after all that dont get me wrong, Gothic 2 will be an increadable game. Im pretty sure its gonna fly into my top 5. But its gonna take something special to overtake the orignal gothic at the number 1 spot.
