I disagree about the point made about female characters not being as good for power builds. They are actually better for some powerful caster builds such as the pure caster build - Illusion is modified by your Personality ability. By level 30 (if you are shooting for 5x modifiers) pretty much all the main stats will be maxed anyway so it is not as if it even really matters. |

I dont know, I kinda thought Rog was funny. It's just the other end of the spectrum of absurdity if you ask me.
Myabe I'm showing my ignorence, but is there a specific reason children NPC's are not included in RPG's? _________________ From flakes of gold |

Perhaps this can all be condensed to "If you are the type of person who wants to make `power builds`, don`t play a role-playing game (I mean that in the true sense of the words) such as Oblivion. Go away and play a MMO, or better yet get a job as an accountant, stare at numbers all day and leave amatuer politics alone." |

I'd rather say it boils down to:
If you look for sexism hard enough, you can find it everywhere. |

Because the feminists don't want them to be killed
I'm just glad my girlfriend is the kind of girl that lets her children starve in The Sims when she thinks they are ugly... |

I have to admit, his topic is damn funny to those of us it doesn't upset.
I reckon they should include kids in RPGs. Not only will it make the world more realistic, Maybe Wacko Jacko will become a Gamer... |

I believe (at least where the EU is concerned) there is an EU law stating that children cannot be depicted in a computer game wherein they can be attacked, killed or otherwise put in peril by the player. So they don't crop up in RPGs because the possibility is there for them to be ill-treated by the player.
At least, that was what I heard as the explanation for the removal of children in the EU release of Fallout.
This doesn't explain their presence in Baldur's Gate 2 though, or for that matter The Sims 1/2. So I could be wrong. _________________ Chonky big tim-tam Australian so-so. |

I always thought this stemmed from the ultima series, from the outrage that stemmed from being able to kill children NPCs to dead child NPCs in the gameworld (child NPCs that are dead when you find them - sometimes with the appearance of a ritualistic killing).
Richard Garriot, the ultima series creator, sort of had this passive aggressive message through his games by including this type of gameplay and content, intended for religious zealots of the time, because of their judgement that his games were 'the devil's work' since the ultima series was so popular and a electronic spin-off of the dreaded Dungeons and Dragons.
In those days, NPCs were primitive sprites that provided more of an iconic representation of characters rather than true-life grahpics what we have today.
Nonetheless, I do remember the controversy, I'm thinking early 90s' here. And the contraversy sighted the Ultima games quite a bit. _________________ The Poster Previously Known As NeptiOfPovar |

Roqua, I'm sure you think you're either a) terribly amusing; or b) smugly superior to everyone. I simply find you boring. If that drivel is the best you can come up with and if you further think it's going to provoke any reaction beyond a yawn, you're sadly mistaken.
Or correct, since I provoked a response from you beyond a yawn. But its okay, I understand women are insane and are not too fond of making sense or using logic. (This would be a good time to use a smiley emoticon, but I have testosterone so I’ll refrain; but lets fake its there for fun.)
And if you mix a) and b) together, throw in a little dash of “awesome”, with a liberal pinch of “idiot”, and a light sprinkling of “genius” you got it. _________________ Vegitarian is the Indian word for lousey hunter. |

Oh c'mon Kalia, you've got to give him points for creativity. My wife and I are both rolling over "shooting babies out of my junk like a machine gun".
Besides, we all know Roqua's wife beats his 98-pound-weakling a$$ like a drum if he doesn't show proper respect. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

You aren't forced to play with inequality. The game is easily modded so you could change this for yourself and release a patch to others if desired. There's already a patch that removes the horse anus, so there's definitely gamers with heightened sensitivity out there. |

Yeah, she could mod out the difference in this game and every TES game hence. She probably wanted to conserve effort by convincing Bethesda to do it for her. Plus, I expect that she wrote the original tirade out of concern for the effect the game will have on other players. It might reinforce the stereotype that the average man possesses greater strength than the average woman. |
