Stealing?

Are there any consequences for stealing items? Will NPCs notice? I just started playing, and don't want to hurt my reputation or anything

NPCs will notice and may turn hostile if they see you steal.

They also might call the guards (if there are any) who will throw you in jail.

But if they don't say anything, then no harm done?

i think most NPCs (maybe half of them) would response if you steal as long as it is in their sight. i once stole a armor when NPCs walks to other room/place.

Thanks for your responses. It is always difficult to know when you start a game what is okay and what will get you in trouble. Some games are more sophisticated than others. When I started in the healer's house, I grabbed a knife and a few items and the healer didn't seem to care. I wasn't sure if that is the exception or the norm.

The healer whose house you wake up in tells your character that he/she can take anything they want because he was not able to bring your belongings with you.

If your stats are high enough you can steal in front of just about everyone.. and when you pickpocket them even if they catch you they wont say anything. just remember it requires high high stats.

The assassin is in an orchard in the middle of the farmland.

You do not escort that knight anywhere, you take his message to the commander at the fort south of Stormfist Castle. Use your map, the place is marked.

If critters in one area are too powerful for you, then try another. Come back to that area when you can handle the stronger critters.

Spend one skill point on repair. It's all you'll ever need and it will save you money.
