I was putting this in another post, but wanted to start a new thread instead, so I just cut and paste.

Speaking of Private run NWN mods I'm closing in on finishing mine. It's not huge but if I were to put it on the internet for people to play, my computer acts as the server correct? This is the part I'm not sure on, how much will my computer effect the game play if it were online. Also say I'm not online, how do people get access to it then? Do I upload it to the NWN homepage for everyone to use or is it only accessable when I'm online? And what detrimines how many people can be there?

Yup, your computer would act as the server. Therefore you have to be online for us to access it. We would also need to know your I.P address and password to the module ( if you set one ).

Without you telling us this info , we wouldn't be able to participate.

Oh ... I should add that what most people do is advertise their module as being available at a certain date and time to logon.

Unless you have an extra PC you can set up as "server" and keep on full-time !

Regarding the performance issues, your computer will also have quite an impact on the experience those who connect to your game will have. The speed of your internet connection is also a factor. If you have 56k speed, and a computer that's barely able to run the game, I wouldn't recommend having more than 4 players online at once.

Otherwise, I think NWN can accept up to 60-some players at once (not absolutely sure about the exact numbers, but it's relatively high enough).

As Ican already mentioned, if you'Re not online, then no one can access your game. You have to give away your IP address to those you want to be able to connect to it (or use matching services like Gamespy). Or, you could use a server type PC that's always on, and always logged on to NWN with your module loaded for a persistent world.
