Spirit of The Wood

Okay....I have the cure for the spirit of the wood but I can't find the dang tree I'm supposed to pour this stuff on. All I could find in that realm was a series of altars the spirit was guarding...no interactable tree. Also....is there any purpose to the ancient dire bear? He isn't guarding anything and he just says roaarrrr....

You have to fight the Spirit. He'll start a conversation right before he dies which will give you the chance to use the antidote.

I don't remember anything special about that bear.
