Actually you two are wrong. Only recently, two awesome RPGs have come out, Fate and Geneforge 3, and some more indie RPGs have come out as well. The Grimoire beta has also begun recently.

You know, people do have lives beyond the Internet. And if you want to know what people are playing, go here.

Lives outside the internet? BLASPHEMY!

It's not like I'm preparing to move to a new apartment with my fiance on Friday or anything...

This site hit its peak because the game Gothic (the first one) never had a forum in English, they did however list two websites as having good forum alternatives to an official one, this being one of those, but that was quite a while ago. What would really reinvigorate this site would be any kind of similar situation, though I guess references for official game websites don’t exactly grow on trees. Perhaps Rend could attempt to offer forum services to various small independent developers?

Actually, the forums and the site show different behaviours. While we are not at our peak traffic ever by any means the site traffic has been trending up quite nicely (according to the data I have) for a while. However, forum participation is a different matter.

For whatever reason, a lot of visitors read our news but don't otherwise participate- and, of course, a lot of forum readers pay no attention to the news.

It seems to me that Roach hit the nail on its head.

If we want more forum participants, we need to make our forums enlisted on more official pages (I mean, we can certainly offer "make us your nearly official forum" for some little developers, but we need to be enlisted on bigger sites as place to discuss the game).

I can personaly witness that this has great impact. Once being the moderator of nearly dead Wizardry 8 forum, I decided to change it and asked to be enlisted on many different pages. Apart from other activites, this brought life to that forum and it kept running well for some time. Even now there is some traffic in comparison with other newer game forums here on RPGDot.

It's a darn good idea, but only the site Admin would be able to do that; the rest of us don't have that authority.

There is also the summer doll drums effect. People are on vacation, not in school, at camp etc, etc. Add to that the (usually) slow summer release season and you have the lack of traffic.

This is my 4th summer as a member/participant here, and it is the same every summer. There is usually a spurt of activity right after school gets out then participation peters off to a slow dribble until the fall, when things start to heat up again.

I've mailed KaiRo a long time ago about RPGdot and that it wasn't mentioned on the official site, but he didn't give any reaction.
