Is there any table which shows how proficient some class can be in some weapon? ( max proficiency of some particular class in some particular weapon).
For example how proficient thief can be in short bow, ranger in bow, ranger in longsword... |

Been so long since I played ... but I recall that most classes can only get 1 level in most things.
I know fighters can get 5. I think paladins and rangers can get 3. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

Hm, I just can't believe that they didn't put such important information in the game manual |

Mages, Clerics, Druids, Monks and Thiefs can only get one Star in the Weapon-Profencies.
Paladins, Rangers, Barbarians and Multi-Classed Fighters can get two Stars.
Pure-Class Fighters Five. It is a bit different with the Weapon-Styles (maybe 3 Stars there ?) and Swashbucklers can specialize (two Stars) in Thief-Weapons IIRC.
In an unmodded BG it is not that important to get more than two Stars - they only increase the Chance to hit and the Amount of Damage that is dealt a bit. The second Star is important because it grants you a Bonus-Attack every second Round. All IIRC - I can't check this myself anymore because my BG is heavily modified... _________________ "Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule."

It is all in the manual. It's at the back in the appendix. If he is talking about BG 1 then going to 5 stars makes a big difference. You get an extra half at 2 stars and another half at 5 stars. This was altered for BG2, which is why there are mods that give you BG1 style weapon profiencies. |
