How do I get Fingers to train me?

I just began playing Gothic and I'm having trouble getting started. I've got JemyM's FAQ. I thought getting training in sneaking and lockpicking would be a good thing to do so I went to see Fingers just as the FAQ instructs. He won't talk to me about any kind of training. Why not?

I have 2 pickaxes, 4 "Rusty Swords" and an "Old Sword". I'll keep the "Old Sword" since it's the best out of what I've got so far, but I want to sell the other stuff. Who's the best person to buy/sell weapons from/to?

I had 2 ore, but Bloodwyn took them both so now I have none. I assume ore is payment for some of the quests so what quests are there for a level 1 character to do that pay ore so I can get some decent weapons and armor?

Thanks a lot.

If my mind doesn't fail me, long time since i've played GI.
You have to learn the sneak skill from Cavalorn first. Then he will teach you other skils.
