If your going for a pure caster then pump points into Intelligence, Piety and probably some into Vitality for extra stanima and hit points. You'll want to add to Dexterity and Speed so you'll have better initative. Also the Dexterity will help with the throw and sling skill (which is a profession skill of the Alchemist). Not to mention if you max Dexterity, then Reflexation is a wonderful ability to have.

For all non-priest & non-bishop spellcasters, I did intelligence & vitality first, followed by piety later. I never found the piety to be as important as vitality. (Obviously, for priests my recommendations would be piety & vitality, as intelligence doesn't affect priest spells.) For bishops, I would recommend the piety & intelligence route.

Piety affects all casters spell points. So it is important for all of them.

However if your going to play a solo pure caster I must agree that vitality is probably going to be more immediately needed. Piety can be pumped at level up.
