The worst CRPGs you ever played...

Between every few excellent CRPG titles that available, there deemed to be few of really bad CRPG titles. Personally, i only start playing CRPGs few years ago, and i usually prefer to buy games from proven game developers (BioWare/Blackisle, Blizzard, etc) and check on games review before i decide to buy it. Thus so far i haven't really bought some bad CRPGs; BG 1, BG 2, IWD 1 & Expansion, Diablo 1, Diablo 2 & Expansion, Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment, Gothic, Morrowind, NWN, Divine Divinity, etc, all these games in one way or another are good or excellent CRPGs.

I did read some comments/reviews by gamer who really stumble upon bad CRPGs (at pcgamer). The most recent one i think everyone still clearly remember is "Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor." It is suffice to list some frustrated player's comments here:

"absolutely dreadful gameplay,"

"POR Ruins duped me..."

"undead sound like they are walking in waterlogged sneakers down the hall of my old high school"

"the game messed up my hard drive..."

"my new hobby these days is to read all the bad reviews this game has received..."

"I wanted to throw my fist into the monitor..."

"game play is so devastatingly, frustratingly, mind-numbingly cumbersome..."

"this game has a good turn based combat, if the turns were not so friggin slooooooooooooow"

"Thank God EB has a good return policy"

Another CRPG title that go down "spectatcularly" is "Ultima 9: Ascension." If i remember correctly i'm still playing Planescape: Torment, when i surf the internet and heard all the hypes about this game. Based on interviews and screenshots, i really impressed by the gorgeous graphic & all. But the final result, as one gamer commented:

"You'll get more fun out of playing with a $5 hula-hoop than playing/working with $69 U9."

I bet certainly there is other bad CRPGs; but anyway which the worst CRPGs you ever played?, why it's bad?, or maybe why you think above mentioned titles are not that bad?.

Goofy Goldfish look here. We already had this interesting topic not long time ago. Ofcourse I don't expect people to go through every old topic before they post, and that's why I don't lock this thread as a double post. I'm sure new members have new opinions, and it's no harm to take this discussion again, but you maybe can use the link as a reference to peoples previous opinions about the topic.

I think Return to Krondor was bad. It didnt live up to its predecessors.

It didn't live up to it's predecessor, but the game wasn't that bad it self, just very very short IMHO!

POR2: After the last patch the game was playable, but very repetetive with boring battles in endless alike dungeons, and boring 2nd AD&D rules and not much else.

Ultima IX: After getting the latest patch 1.18 and a kickass PC, the game was really not that bad. Yes it was much unlike the previous Ultima games, but certainly not bad after the latest patch was installed.

Well for the record I can offically put all the U9 rumors to rest.
It was stated that you'd either need a powerful machine or lots of precise tweaking to get it running smoothly. With my new system I re-installed it just for kicks and it looks amazing (as good as and maybe a little better than Gothic) with absolutely no tweaking needed to the cfg file.

MW would be my first vote for worst CRPG. (what a piece of s**t that game turned out to be)

I'm not going to say my least favorite RPG, but some may be able to guess it.

But others I didn't like are, BG, diablo, DS, septerra core, final fantasy VII & VIII and others I can't think of at the moment.

There are also games that I guess that I wouldn't like so I didn't even buy because I didn't think I'd like them, IWD, IWD2, BG2, DII, FFIX, Arcanum, and many more.

Ohh and I actually liked UIX and Return to Krondor. Both of which was not the games they should have been though. On that same token, I think Morrowind is not as good as it should have been, but that may be because I just wanted Daggerfall with updated graphics.

BG1: I had to quit after having to kill my billionth kobold(At least I think they were kobolds...it's been a while )

MW: Not really bad, just disappointing.

Ultima Pagan and Ascension:
Pagan for jumping puzzles..didn't play very long
Ascension for poor performance, lame combat, bugs...still doesn't run smoothly on current top hardware

M&M6:
Ugly and too much combat, but had its moments

Diablo2:
The magic is gone..too much more of the same

I have to agree, PoR 2 was really bad.

MW was both excellent and crappy, in a strange way. I have had lots of fun with it, but i have hated it too.

I didn't play it, but I've read that "Descent To Undermountain" is one of the worst.

LOL. From your name "Gothic Freak" i can understand why you don't like Morrowind. Apparently some player does have "strong feeling" of particular games. Pesonally i rarely hate particular CRPGs with extreme dislike...For games like Ultima 9 & POR which were commonly criticized, certain players did said that they are excellent games and even gave them full scores.

BTW i can't figure out why people who played Gothic usually didn't like or hate MW (at least that's what i have seen in G1 & G2 forums). Maybe people who played Gothic have a very different mind set from MW's player??? As for myself i think both MW & G are very near in quality with different weakness and advantages, although i like MW a little more...

Eye of the Beholder 3 was terrible.

I saw this in a movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode. I think it was called, "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down."

Anyone ever played Lords of Midnight 3: The Citadel? Not to be confused with the orginal Lords of Midnight, I am talking about the 1995 (I think it's 95...) game.

Just mentioning this game is enough to send chills down any RPG lover's spine if he/she ever dared try this promising title. This is probably the worst CRPG (if not the absolute worst game) I have ever played myself...
