In addition to the techniques mentioned above, if you can get to a place where a monster can't get you, you can bombard it with arrows or magic until it's dead. I killed many a creature before I was supposed to be able to in Gothic I this way.
But you can't really do it in the G2 demo, because no one sells spells and there's no dexterity trainers. |

lol, it works with humans too, to kill the farmers i lured them into the barn, then climbed to the top of the haystack and shot them as they tried to come up
try to get behind your enemy so they cant block you, and watch out for the old wolf sandwhich manuver (you walked past a wolf hidden in the trees, attacked its friend so it kills you)
another good trick is to help the hunter kill everything in that valley, then shoot him |

poor guy, he finished the orc with about 2 health, as he lifted bread to his mouth i shot him 4 times and then put another 2 arrows into him to be sure |
