Mage fights?

One thing I noticed while playing through Gothic is that you don't get to fight any mages! Other than the undead shaman's, there are no hostile magicians. Well, actually, when the Mages of Water become angry at you for charging the sword, you can fight them, but it doesn't seem right (if you've played the game you know why). I was wondering: in Gothic 2, are there any instances in which you fight mages? It would be cool to have a magic duel.

The Seekers are mages, but I prefer to take them on in close combat, less dangerous.

You can pick fights with mages in the monastery. Oh, but you'll lose. In any case it's just fireballs, fireballs, fireballs. Orc shamans do it, mages do it, the Seekers do it. Oh, the ice golems give you an ice wall.

But yes... you do officially have to fight one magician (which I almost totally forgot about)

Once you get reasonably powerful, why would you lose fights to mages who cast nothing but fireballs. I found it especially easy to beat up all the fire mages in Gothic.

Well, when I was palyin' GII the "mage-fight"
Spoiler:
I suppose you're all referring to the the 'black mage' in Irdorath
sucked, because I just killed him from afar with my holy arrow, which was pretty boring. I didn't even know that there could be a nice mage-fight until it was already too late and my opponent was dead.

I also was attacked by my fellow firemages at the monastery once. I guess I shouldn't have tested my newly forged fire-rain-rune within the monastery walls. How could i know that this spell was so devastating?
Of course I immediately loaded a savegame and thus revived all the poor novices...

btw: Great that there is a spoiler-code now!

the only mage I find hard to beat are those skeletal mages.
They first freeze you with that ice-block spell and then they summon skeletal warriors to beat you.
