ok now, so the gadgeteer can make the spell equivalents out of the gadgets he finds...I had all theese items saved up waiting to find a link for all this crap. Once he makes it, anyone can use the item? I thought all those things were going to make a super super gun or something. Although his gun now is pretty cool, it will shoot darts, knives, bullets, arrows, quarrels...its great, he's like my garbage disposal now.

As for alchemy, how long does it take to raise skill and how do I get them making potion over night while I camp? And can I pick and choose what potions get made? My rangers skill is only like 39

Notice the little number after each assembly on the linked list? That's the engineering skill required to use it. Anyone with the required skill can use the item. Of course, I think the gadgeteer is the only one that gets the engineering skill...

I usually got a point in alchemy for every 10 or so potions I mixed up. There's some random elements so I've done as well as 5 and as badly as 20. Your ranger will never make potions overnight- only the alchemist class gets that bonus. The alchemist does not get to choose what it made.

Dte is correct. You must have a high enough engineering skill to use the gadget (right click on the item once you have it to see the required skill), and only gadgeteers get engineering. There is nothing to prevent you from class changing once your engineering is high, and continuing to use gadgets - but you can't make any more once you switch.

Unless you switch back...
Also, you can use the Omnigun only if you are currently a gad.

Well my gadgie's Omnigun is resembling a machine gun more and more each day, but I would like to try a bard on my next party...

Speaking of which, could someone tell me the best weapons for each class?
I know there is the CoC (found that) for the ninja, what about for the valk and the samurai or monk?

I'm already looking forward to my 2nd run where Ill REALLY wreak havoc, and Im thinking that I can go a lil more adventerous with my party (like a bard and a psi or the classes already mentioned) if I had better firepower for them
So basically I need to know the best weapon class for each class.
Two fighters definitely took the edge off my first game, next time around I want to spice it up a lil, maybe go with a pure 6 to level em faster too

It depends a great deal on how you develop them, and also on the contents of some random loot. There's a couple chests (in areas you haven't visited yet) that usually yield excellent random loot. I've never gotten anything remotely useful out of them , but other people have.

I don't think we should tell you about specific weapons just yet. It could spoil things too much. Well, maybe one: the best weapon for a monk (IMO) would be.... none. Fists of Fury all the way.

Best weapon depends on how you develop them. I won't detail individual weapons, but I will list classes with my suggestions for weapons.

Lord - Otter swears by maces! I had a swordsman.
Ninja - I never found a better weapons than his fists and feet, just like the monk. You can experiment a little here. Swords work OK, but are limited by class restrictions. I haven't tried the CoC - I'm still working towards getting it, now that I have a ninja who can use it.
Monk - Don't even think about anything other than fists and feet.
Samurai - The best swordsmen in the game. 'Nuff said.
Valkyrie - People have said spears are the way to go. In my first party, Vi was a swordswoman, not a spear carrier. My second had its own Valk, who started with spears, but about 60% through the game switched to a monstrous sword that was better than any spear I ever found.
Fighter - Swords tend to be the most powerful weapons in the game.
Ranger - Probably the weakest meleers of all the fighter types. If you can afford it, keep the ranger in the rear with a bow. Otherwise, you'll probably use a sword here.
Gadgeteer - Must be specially trained to melee, as opposed to a rear rank character with the omnigun. Mine was so trained, and was a great swordsman.
Bard - Incomplete. I never trained a bard to melee from the start. Requires special efforts at training like the gadgeteer. Also, mine was a faerie and thus had additional race restrictions. (I think the only sword she could use was the sword of hearts.) So I'll let someone else try to answer this one.

Just a quick response to Bilbo's post-

1) You forgot the rogue class, but who'd want a rogue in version 1.2.4?

2) Rangers can use polearms. Put him behind the tanks with a good spear and he can do some serious damage.

3) Bards follow the exact pattern as gadgies, since they can use most of the same weapons and armor types.

In general, you can't go wrong with a sword (except for the monk and ninja). The only complication is if you dual wield since there aren't any good off-hand swords to speak of. That's where Otter steps in with his maces, because the best off-hand weapon in the game (by a large margin) is a specific mace.

1) I deliberately omitted the Rogue, as I don't consider the class a fighter-type. Along with my Psi & Alc, I'm also running a Rogue. I've had enough of this class, and as soon as I raise his intelligence a bit I'm class changing him to a samurai.

2) Yes, rangers can use polearms. But I found for front line meleeing my ranger did better with a sword. If you have the ranger in the rear, by all means give him/her a polearm to go with the bow.

3) Since my bard was faerie, I don't have a good basis for comparing weapons for gadgie v. bard from memory. Assuming Dte's correct (and I have no reason to doubt it!), then train your bard to use swords.

A psi, an alch, and a rogue? This party is for experimenting more than winning, isn't it? Not that that's a bad thing...

I played a Psi, Alc, Bard team, changed Psi to Monk, Alc to Ran and Bard to Sam when i got to the Infy helms and Reguv robes tho...(@ L16 in that game)

Anyway, i like Mauler/Diamond Eyes. DE is the deadliest Secondary weapon at all (and there are 2 of'm!), and Mauler has a Mace bonus which makes it even better. This combined with the Lord's Dual bonus or the Fighter's Melee bonus, makes that by far deadlier than anything else short of Co'C/Rod o'Sprites or Light/E.Wak. And if you count Sam's Sword bonus... Too bad you can't hardly ever get Light!

Some other gadgie questions:

How many shots can you get that omni gun up to?
I swear if I my gadgie get into 1 more fight, he's gonna transform that Omni into an Uzi...he already shoots 3x in one attack (kinda weak, but the effects on the ammo is worth it)
I have a TON of gadgie items but I never find the time to create anything
his Engineering skill is stuck at 75 cause he doesnt do anything with it,
How can I raise his engie skill?, better yet (before I waste my time trying to raise it)
How much higher will he need for another tweak on his gun, and can he get 4 shots per round? Dex is maxed

Off note, the place where you get the Sorceress heart, there is something called ( I grabbed it just before they attacked and Im at work now) Lucite stone, it was in some type of altar facing the inside of the Sorceress' bldg. Whats it for?

Should I even bother getting a Gadgie for my next party>
I'd like get a bard or a Bishop, but
a) I want a mook (for the convo with the Mook in Arnika) and they make good gadgies
b) With him having T&L and that omni gun, he could take the place of a scout and a thief
b) maybe next time around I'll actually make a few of those devices, but if all those devices do is make him another mage (since only people with engineering can use these items) and my spellcasters already rock, why bother?

Someone sway me one way or the other please, because last night I spent (literally) 45+ minutes on the character create screen going over the pro's and con's of my next party and there's too many ways to go, keep getting brain meltdowns

I want to include a bishop (to replace my gadgie) and a bard (to replace my thief) and go with a Sam and ninja for frontline OR go nuts and go:
Ninja/Sam/Monk/Priest/Bishop/Mage

First, from the linked list:
Electrodes + Lazurite Stone = Regenerating Stone Heal All(1) 60

The engineering skill is boosted by using gadgets. Unfortunately, I don't remember all the upgrades for the omnigun. They're based on your level, and then modified by your stats just like a sword would be.

I'm certainly not going to push your party in any direction- putting groups together and seeing how they gel is my favorite part of the game. That's why I've got so many restarts. 45 minutes on the character screen? Bah! Amateur!
