While Apple should be congratulated for producing a commercially successful computer based on a GUI/mouse combination there is no doubt all of this was pioneered by Xerox PARC, along with frame buffer graphics, ethernet and laser printers. So Gates "stealing" from Apple is all relative.

The Xerox machine was called the "Xerox Star". Not to put down Steve Jobs, but it was always Steve Wozniak who I felt was the soul of Apple. Jobs had the business acumen, but Woz had the warmth of personality and more programming savvy. It was Woz's genius and drive to improve computers that originally drove Apple to develop a GUI. (Although by that time, Woz was mostly not involved in development himself, IIRC.)

Yeah. Poor Mr. Wozniak. He's without doubt the brains behind the computer. Pity he wasn't good at selling his ideas. He was working for HP when he made his 'home computer'. However, he couldn't even sell HP his idea. It took a domineering and somewhat dynamic Jobs to make that idea a brand.

Then tragically, Wozniak got into a plane crash and his head was never the same after that. He became a teacher in some elementary school after that.
