I think the mods have forsaken us here, so you should be safe. It's fallen to otter, Bilbo, and I to tame the hordes.
I'll PM you momentarily, since we run a tight ship here in the Wiz8 forum. There shall be no baning here! _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

Well, as stated in another thread somewhere, I have just acquired Wiz8.
I remember trying the demo some 2 (?) years ago and thinking that it looked pretty good. I also remember the voice acting reminding me of Jagged Alliance 2 characters...also from Sirtech I believe...hmmmm.
I never saw it in the shops until now, but I probably wasn't looking that hard...to make thing even better it was on re-release for £9.99
Anyway, I have started with 6 of the pre-rolled characters and have gained the dizzy heights of level 3 on all of them..
My impressions are that this is one excellent game !....and I missed it first time around
This is "stat-city" which I must admit I do love. When I have levelled up, I spend ages pondering what skills / attributes to lovingly bestow upon my characters.
I have already grown attached to them, which is a must for me in any RPG. I need to care about my character(s).
The grafix are not the best in the world, but that is secondary in a game this deep. Love the turn based combat and the more sedate planning of the next action / round.....not a click fest.
Whilst I enjoy the ways of Never Winter and Morrowind etc; I am afraid they will be archived for a while.
Having browsed a lot of posts here, I can see that I am in for some good times and RPG fun.
Thanks for listening and I feel the need to book some days off........
Regards,

Well heres the story about sir tech.
Sir tech was an american developer, one of the first computer software makers ever, wizardry 1 was made for the apple 2.
They also became a software publisher buying games from other developers. Like REalms of ARkania which was a German game.
The core devoloper made wizardry 1-7.
Sir Tech canada was actually a different company, it made jagged alliance.
Sir tech went under in 98 while Sir tech canada was developing Wizardry 8.
So Sir Tech Canada ( which is still in business contrary to what people may say) bought the rights and finished the game without a publisher.
Why I bother to tell this whole story, is its related to the graphics. You can see a very old tech circa 95 part to the game in the item interface. The spinning potions and armor on the ground are sprites like might and magic 7 or wizardry 7. When Sir Tech canada bought the game, they bought what was a state of the art 3d engine designed the world in it.
Youll see it more when you get to Arnika in the bank floors and the temple floors, its actually has some of the most advanced textures in any game ever made. And then some of the game looks very old, its a strange project of a game. |

It exists as a business entity, but it has no employees and (I believe) no assets. As I understand it, they decided to keep the company name alive to protect it from poachers and also on the off chance that they could still get a publisher to pony up for Wiz9 at some point. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

After some break I started my next party in Wiz8. There is no other game that has such impact on your character development (number of skills, etc.). I also like to take care of my characters, like Hexmaster, so it is just perfect game for me. And sound files - ingenious - every character speaks with its original voice on almost full range of subjects! It's worth this 600mb and even more.
I will love a sequel or expansion as well. |

All of us here love the original, and would love an expansion or Wiz9. We just don't think it's happening. _________________ The world itself shifts and changes and fades to mist like the strings of a minstrel's harp, and mayhap the dreams we forge are more enduring than the works of kings and gods.-Robert E. Wizardry 8 is my favorit RPG ever and it is my first one (yes, you can see that my "ever" is not so long time).
However I never expirienced such good, consuming gameplay.... |

Well, you guys are doing fine, answering the newbies in a proper manner, so I can't find any reason to interfere in that. You (3) guys have played this game so many times, that there probably ain't any stone in the game you don't know.
Only because I'm not posting a hole lot here anymore, it don't mean that I ain't checking in from time to time. Despite Lintra's ahem efforts (once again) to remove the conversation "off topic", I think You managed to stay on track
Besides with "Val" as Guardian I'm sure You all are in good hands. _________________ Moderator on RPGdot.com Forum.

I was just kidding, Michael C. The posters here don't need much policing by anyone. As it approaches a year since I last played, I find myself deferring to Bilbo and Otter more and more all the time. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

I know you were, I didn't mean my post to be serious too, I just wanted to answer on such a indirect request _________________ Moderator on RPGdot.com Forum.
