Back to the future, Gothic style |
|
Well, it finally happened.
I've just ordered a German Gothic 1 game from rollenspiel-shop.de. I couldn't find a single English version anywhere and I'm also playing G2 and NotR in German now (Gold Edition), so I thought why not.
For a lousy 4,99 Euro I've bought, what many claim to be, the best game ever. I really hope it's worth every penny. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

I hope, I'm playing G2 and the addon in German, but I've learned that story by heart. Just wait and see, if I can understand a completely new story, or should I say old story. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

This leads to the obvious question: Why didnīt you simply buy the Collectorīs Edition with all 3 games?
Donīt forget to install all the small patches. Gothic looks much better with them. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Gothic 1 is brilliant, the story is better than G2 in my opinion, but G2 is basically improved in most other ways.
Still, it's amazing and I'm sure you'll have a blast with it. |

For some mysterious reason (I believe it had something to do with my brother who was sitting next to me when I ordered the Gold Edition) I didn't want to order G1 at the time I ordered NotR and G2.
In other words, I was stupid and therefore I now spent three times as much on shipping to get a game that's about 4 years old. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

your sure to have a blast
even if gothic is 4 years old its still one of the few game that can still pull its own waight ..
i really wish they would make an addon finishing all the forgotten quests they never got to do ... then we'd never need to buy another game ever again _________________ Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtsy,

Hope you sincerely enjoy Gothic Sem, Uocjat is right, 4 years on and still a nagnetic game. This is the pioneer that started it all, soon becoming a collectors item (and already is)
As you are well adjusted to G2, i am sure you will see several things that have been mentioned on the forums.
1. The true "original" atmosphere of the interactive dialogue.
2. The "the black hole" that which was missed in G2 but hinted by Kairo will be recovered in G3. (the war of the gods, it is only slightly hinted in Gothic)
3. Where some of the referrence characters originated from, Lee, Lares Diego etc etc. Oh and most of all Xardas.
4. How some of the G2 referals evolved from Gothic.
5. The subtle differences in the dex' and strength skills allocation system.
6. How the simpler graphics does not deter the player from the gameplay.(imho)
7. How the landscpe originated (valley of mines)
As you are a well polished player of G2 it will be interesting to know your views on these points as you progress through the game. _________________ Forever aches my wretched soul, for Chromanin locked in that dark hole, though crypted key i've yet to learn, he knows one day i will return. |

Just got my copy of G1 and started playing.

My copy has version 1.08j, which patches should I download, I looked around on WoG but couldn't find anything I needed.
My opinion on some of Wulf points, I've only played an hour or so, but still:
1. Some dialog option are amazing. When you meet the two hunters from the New Camp and tell him that you will bring as much maps as you can carry when you can get them without paying. Or when you tell the gate guard of the Old Camp that you've come to take on with everybody in the camp and he knocks you down immediately. It took me some more loadings but it's great.
2. This will take a while before I can answer this.
3. Diego rocks! And Lester as a simple novice is also cool. I also met Bloodwyn but he's just a simple guard, he's got promoted several times when you meet him in NotR.
4. More to come
5. More to come, it's funny to see the hero fights with a one-handed sword! Holding it with both hands, like a goblin.
I haven't learned anything yet. Couldn't find a teacher. Lester showed me the Guru teacher but they won't talk to me. (Cool detail btw)
6. It's beautiful, there's a lot less detail and the teaxtures are sometimes awful, but it's like finding an old box of toys, something nostalgically. The have made quite a jump, in the period of 2001 - 2006.
7. This is very funny, I've had several times that I recognised something and said: Cool, it's still the same as in Gothic 2... oh wait that's not... oh well. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

Are you pointing towards my "awesome" search skill or to the usability of the WoG site.
Where can I find all those things you mentioned? Are they hosted on gothicdot?
//edit: I have a version from Germany, so I do have the In Extremo performance in chapter 2. It's really neat, so I don't think I need the In Extremo patch.
//edit2: I googled for the files, but all I got was threads and posts on rpgdot and WoG, including my own posts, so that's not really working.
//edit3: I've found the fps-patch and some forumthreads were NikoDe explains how to tweak gothic with some changes in the gothic.ini file (similar to the zhighrenderer thingy) _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."
