Oh, your system is good enough. There are reported very different performences...
For example...
-------------
My system:
TBird 850
256 SDRam, GForce2GTS 32 MB...
Running in 1152*1024*32bits, visible range max., all details max...
It goes perfectly, not slowdowns, nothing. Perfect.
-------------
My friends system
TBird 1500
256 DDRam, GForce2GTS 32 MB....
Running 1024*768*16 bits, midle details
Great slowdowns in big open areas and when fighting multiple enemies.
--------------
Do not know why it is. I am running winXp, so it should not be problem. I suppose, you have all newest drivers...
Hmm, really do not know what to do with this problem.

Winxp is a ram killer,it uses ALOT of resources,i had the same problem.I had 128mb of ram,and i couldn't even think of playing games like giants. Then i switched back to windows 98se and everything wen't well.I now have 256mb ram,but i still don't wanna use winxp, because someone told me if you're a gamer and wanna use winxp you should at least have 512 mb ram.

Yeah, probably WinXP. If you're going to upgrade get some nice DDR RAM. No less than 256 - since you want to have at least 128 alone for WinXP you are only leaving 64megs for Gothic to use. Circuit City has a nice RAM sale going right now, we got 128 SDRAM for $3 after rebates. I'm not sure about DDR RAM but it's something to look into. I have been playing on my Fiance's system and it's a Compaq Presario P-III 1.0 with 256 SDRAM and a GeForce III PCI 32mb. And it runs great, can max all detail options but resolution (no higher than 1024x768 or it gets a bit slow) and it runs great and looks great. Only thing is that smoke is green colored. But that's probably just something goofy with the drivers.
Hope this helps. |

Oh, and one more thing you might try. After you load Gothic, alt-tab out and ctrl+alt+del to bring up your task manager, somewhere in there you can right click and change the resource priority of programs.
Try increasing Gothic up to high or somesuch, but be warned it could cause a crash/lockup. Just something to try. If it works it might make it run a little better.
Good luck. |
