I assumed that a weapon that listed more damage than another would be better - is this not necessarily true? I have fought the same NPC with a 1H weapon (Lare's Axe) and a 2H weapon (Krush UrRok) several times now. The 1H weapon is listed at 65 damage while the 2H weapon is only 55 damage. However, I cannot defeat the NPC (one of the swamp camp guards) with the 1H weapon but easily defeat him with the 2H. Can someone please explain this to me? I assumed one chose one's weapon of choice by which showed more damage - is there a bug or is weapon damage more complicated?

Perhaps two handed weapons give a larger damage bonus for your strength. That's why you do enough damage to harm the guard.

Maybe your timing is better with the 2-handed weapon.

No, no bug.
Weapon damage is very simple, infact.
For melee, the total damage done is just your strength plus the weapon's damage, and for ranged, your dexterity plus the weapon's damage.

I think 2H melee weapons have a greater range than 1H, so perhaps you're hitting the Guard while he's further away from you - out of his own range, infact.

I just did some experiments and I was able to damage enemies with 2 handed weapons that I couldn't with 1 handers.

I am fond of cramming my single-handed Sword of Fear up an enemies arse; but a double-handed light sword will do the job better, albeit slower. The two-handed sword will take me places where the Sword of Fear can't go.
