Game locking please help.

I just got the game and i have a S3 Graphics SuperSavage /IXC 1179 Card and a Yamaha AC-XG audio divice. My laptop is a Pentium 4 Toshiba 9100 with 523,056 KB RAM CPU is 1.70GHz.

I was able to install the game. When i play the game i get sound and video but the game tends to lock up quite often and i have to reboot the PC. I would say every 15 - 20 min it locks up.

I have downloaded a new driver for the S3 Graphics SuperSavage /IXC 1179 i think.

Can i please get help -- this game is unplayable when i have to reboot all the time.

Thanks so much,

1) What version of Windows do you have?
2) I'd check for audio drivers. Lots of mysterious crashes are soundcard related, and it appears you've already covered your bases on the video card.
3) Have you noticed any common trait with your crashes. On my previous PC, I found that turning off the music and footsteps helped me out a great deal, but I had less memory than you that was causing me trouble.

Keep after it- we'll do our best to get you up and running!

Are you trying to run other applications in the background? There is a documented memory leak bug, and other applications running may screw up Wiz8's memory management. I had problems just leaving my DSL connected.

Dteowner may be right about the sound card being the problem. Even with DSL off, if I right clicked on a character to pause the game (both during combat and just wandering), and I left the computer for a while (more than 20 minutes, but I can't quantify when it happened) I experienced a type of freeze - I would hear a single note, droning on and on; the mouse would move; but clicking on stuff wouldn't do anything. I could ctrl-alt-del and manually close Wiz8, though.

I had that same crash situation, buzz and all. I upgraded from 128MB to 256MB on RAM and it got much much better. Since you have a great deal more RAM than that, Bilbo mentions a good point about background programs.

Yeah, I used to have 15 to 20 minute crashes until I ran the game with the "DirectX 6" setting. Not that I reinstalled DX6 (I'm currently under DX7.0a) and the game ran trouble free. That may be a sign that the game wants to run under the absolute lastest drivers, particularly those under DirectX 8. I currently have an ATI Rage 128 video card and a Sound Blaster Live/Value.
