Weapons vs. creature type?

Do the different type of weapons matter vs. particular creature types? For example, do skeletons take more damage against clubs and axes rather than swords, things like that?

So if I had a double-bladed axe and a longsword with exact same stats... any point in picking one over the other?

Yes, some weapon/baddie combo's are better. For instance arrows won't do diddly to a skeleton, but any sword, axe etc of the same hitpoint values are interchangable.

Hmm, actually I think you might have misread my post. I already know about the difference between long-range and close-combat... hence the Armor has different values for both. If I somehow could wear ten +10 Arrow-Armor protection rings somehow and was naked, I'd have 100 protection against arrows and they wouldn't do too much damage to me while a sword might kill me with one thrust.....

BUT

I'm talking about the difference that I cited specifically in my example.. an axe and a sword with EXACT same stats, will they be different in any way. Of course a sword will do differently to a skeleton compared to an arrow, they both attack the target using completely different armor classes. But all melee weapons hit against the same "armor type" so I wanted to know if there was some *hidden game mechanics* to deal with different weapons on armor/creatures.

Like in AD&D, there's pierce, bash, and slash... or something like that. one of the optional rules for second edition anyways

no as far as i know the damage is the same in everything
the only place I found that was diffrent was the magic golem that needed a special weapon.
I think PB could have given the subject a lot more than they did
only spells have differnt damage on differnt critters e.g a fireball can damage an ice golem but means nothing to a fire one

OK well that sounds good enough for me. I wonder if anyone has posted a list or something regarding which spells have the best effects on which monsters and so forth... I'm in the mood to hunt some golems

You also will have no problem taking down a skeleton with a bow, you just need a powerful bow, a lot of percentage in the bow skill and a high Dexterity, then the bow will have a large effect on the skeleton, too. Just as the strenght is added to the weapon strenght when you do a critical hit with a close combat weapon, so will the dexterity be added to the damage of the bow when it does a critical hit. And, as you know, the critical hit rate is the same as the skill percentage for the particular weapontype.

Actually i think the orc slayer is better against orcs more than a weapon with the same damege cos i had a weapon that wasnt weeker in a lot of damege and the orc slayer did A LOT more damege but only for the orcs normal monsters i hit a little more... becose im a paladin i now have a holy arrow rune it does 150 damege and only cost 5 mana!!! (it works only against evil: orcs, wargs, dragons, undead, seekers and more...).

I dunno... maybe you are just seeing things

I'm using the orc slayer sword in the valley of mines now, it doesn't seem to make a huge amount of difference over my previous sword, "fine bastard sword" or something.
