Hexy, I don't think it's necessarily religious. The themes mentioned by the movies are mostly in the realm of philosophy and antropology, not religion. From example, that blurb from the architect in the ending of Reloaded reveals the Wachovski's brothers view of predestination. But Neo and this "savior" thing you mention, that's just an archetype. Neo's no more than a deus ex machina. Just because parallels can be drawn to religion do not make the themes of the movies religious. _________________ "Tree stuck in cat. I know. That doesn't change the fact that I loved it and I thought it was an awesome fight sequence... and the music was phenomenal. I'm getting the soundtrack just for that track. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

What was so Dragonball Z about it? Did they use special attacks, and scream some lame name while they performed them? Was it horribly long and filled with dialogue and flashbacks?
No? Yes? Maybe? Ok... |

No, I didn't think so, but it is always better to ask, yes?
The answer, is NO. Neither Neo nor Smith did anything of what I mentioned... which kind of makes it like... something which is NOT DBZ. |

The collision shockwaves while flying and the flying powerbomb leveling a city block on impact are classic Dragonball Z. Still, there wasn't nearly enough screaming, pointless powering up, flashbacks, bad animation, useless flashes to meaningless characters running annoying commentary, bad scripting, or power blasts described as being powerful enough to destroy a world with ease blowing up a mountain instead to be considered good Dragonball Z. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

Ok, MAYBE the waterblasts had a connection with DBZ. But leveling blocks on impact? We got good ol' fashioned comic books for that (Marvel, Superman etc)! |

Considering Dragonball Z was created 'in the style of American comics' I would have to agree.
The Matrix franchise has always been about people who are superheroes. They just happen to be superheroes in a digitally created world run by machines that took over the real world and hunted humanity to the point of extinction... but just can't finish the job so they have to keep sending cyborgs back in time to kill John Conner... er... sorry... mixing up my robots-took-over-the-world-humans-resisting movies.
In any case, it's the RTOTWHR theme that makes it science fiction, but the Matrix franchise was done in the style of Japanese high fantasy action films taken to an entirely new level.
This blending of styles, along with the philosophical and pseudoreligion, make it classic Anime.
Only it's live action.
I can live with that because I know good Anime when I see it. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi
