I tried BG2 with TOB over the weekend, added patches and Baulderdash fixes, started a game after hours of research and the tutorial. The graphics (not text just the playing area) were unclear at 800x600, I realized that I might have technical issues then went back to Wiz 8. I'll visit their boards (BG2)later when I'm over my Wiz 8 addiction. Obviously BG2 is as immersive as any game can get. I can't concentate on 2 games at once anyway. Wizadry 8 is still surprising me. Next month maybe |

It's because when most ignorant non-gamer people think about "video games", pictures come into their mind of small children playing a Mario game on the family TV. Although the average age of gamers nowdays is about 22, many people think that it's something that only kids do. Recently, games like GTA have created a lot of negative press for video games in general, and the thought that they can be mentally stimulating just doesn't occur to a lot of people.
Yeah, you're right about that. I do notice that video games tend to be more graphic than computer games as a whole, probably because the industry knows it's primarily an adolescent/teenage market. And is GTA that game where you go around shooting at the police and innocent bystanders alike so as to accumulate points onto the next level? If so, I saw a special on that one night on the news. There was an officers sitting behind the boy who was playing it as a demonstration...the cop kept smiling to himself, trying to take it all lightheartedly. But I could tell he was upset. _________________ Dame it! Hold still so I can target you! |

Sorry, I should have embellished. Grand Theft Auto is the most recent target for people that think video games turn normal kids into killers. It used to be Doom, then Mortal Kombat, etc.
It's a fantastic game, but it's main strength, and focal point for the anti-violence stuff, is that it gives you complete freedom to do ANYTHING. You can buy a sniper rifle and climb up to a high place to shoot people, you can steal some guy's car and run him down with it, you can pick up hookers and screw them to get your health back, the list goes on...
It's fantastic fun, a great game, but it draws the attention of people looking for someone to blame like a magnet. I get worried about that. America should be tightening its laws on guns, not looking for scapegoats. |
