Game prices to rise @ CNN Money

This article at CNN Money speaks for itself, so here's the intro:
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – For the past 20 years, the gaming world has had one universal truth: AAA games cost roughly $50. As we close in on the next generation of game machines, though, change is in the air.

Publishers have quietly been testing how consumers might react to higher priced games for a while now, bumping the price of sure-bet titles above the $50 line. Sales of "collector's edition" titles, which offer small perks for anywhere from $10 to $25 more, are also being watched closely.

That will mean buying more from the Bargin Bin or buying used games. The most I want to pay is 55 for a game. The collectors edition are not all that great to me, because after the next 2 versions of windows they wont run anymore.

I wouldn't pay more than 40 EUR/USD for a game, and only "kick-ass-games" like Dungeon Lords deserve such a price. Perhaps they will rise prices for Console-games, if theres no possibility of cd cloning, as they still do, especially Nintendo. But the price can only be as high as the market allows. So spoken for me, i will never pay more than 40 or 50 for a game, I think thats immoral.

definately...
are the companies in so much need of profit?? Game prices are too expensive the way they are....imagine raising them. we pay 50 euro for a game and 30 for expansions... 500 euro for 10 games???

imagine if a game would cost 10-15 euro to buy....then i think most people wouldn't pirate games. maybe then the profit would be the same.

I like you guy's logic. "They are forcing me to steal games which are a hobby item that I could go the rest of my life without playing."

The next time I see a girl with a tight dress I should rape her and plead my case that she forced me to rape her by wearing a tight dress.

Stealing is stealing. No one forces you to steal anything, especially hobby items. You guys are thieves--bottom line.

At least be truthful thieves, admit you steal because you wanted something and didn't want to pay for it. Don't blame publishers.

We control the gaming market, since it is a free market. If you don't like the prices, don't buy the product. If enough people are unwilling to buy the product at that cost then the marginal profit decrease will force publishers to lower prices to increase profit. Economics you thieving morons. Instead of stealing and playing games and wasting your life away why not do something whacky and off the wall like getting an education.

That was uncalled for. No one claimed to support piracy, they just said raising the price would increase it.

Game prices

No problem for me. I usually buy games 6 months to a year or more after they come out. By that point the patches are out and the game is half-price or less.
That's one thing I like also about computers and accessories, the longer you wait the better price you get for the technology. They are always coming out with new faster stuff so the older tech becomes much cheaper. Course there are many people who will pay the premium prices to stay current, that is just not the way I am.

Well, I sure hope we're first going to see the price drop we've been promised a long, long time ago (when DVD boxes were introduced) before they raise prices .

Wow - What A Deal!!!

First I find out that Publishers are planning on incorporating Adware/Spyware into the upcoming games...and now I find out I'm going to have to pay a higher price just to play a game with that unwanted Adware/Spyware???

Maybe it's time I find something else for my recreational interest:-)

I only buy games late now.

I bought Star Wars KotR for my Xbox (used) for $18 then after getting 80 hours of play out of it, I returned it for $15 to my local EB store. I paid $3 for 80 hours of a great rpg game.

I won't be buying games new ever again. The games are all new to me anyway.

I just noticed Gothic 2 is US$10 on Amazon. That's very cheap for so much game. Why spend more?
$55 for Doom3 ? Phfft!

The game prices are falling quickly. Everyone can wait half a year (at least in most cases) and pay 50% or even less of the price.
