Star Wars Galaxies Update @ Gamespy |
|
Gamespy has posted the first of a planned series of periodic updates to check the state of play in Star Wars Galaxies. This first edition is pretty scathing, criticising poor balance and continued lack of content:
There's still an extraordinary dearth of content. While Sony has added new things, much of what has been added is more-of-the-same that players have already become bored with. For example, I was thrilled when I learned that there were going to be exploration missions and Scout missions available in town. Unfortunately, said missions were the same dull FedEx quests I'd done a million times. "Kill 50 Corellian butterflies for 1,500 credits", "Go here and scout this location for me for 1,200 credits"? I'm sorry, sending me to run fifty miles to a randomly chosen spot on Corellia doesn't qualify as content, not when Xbox players (and soon, PC) can save the entire galaxy in Knights of the Old Republic.
You can find the article here. |

I really shouldn't say"I told ya so" but "I TOLD YA SO"Sometimes it just takes longer for some people to realize that paying almost 15$ a month to beta test is a bit absurd.I got suckered in to paying to beta test this mmorpg when it was still officially being "beta tested" and I knew then(along with alot of other people I might add) that at release it would only be a continuation of the beta. The promises Sony and Lucas Arts made were all lies and their only concern was cashing in on the "Star Wars" mystique. |

I'm very happy that Gamespy is keeping track of SWG. I was in the beta and the first month of "gold" (which indeed was really a payed beta) and cancelled my account due to lack of content. missing game elements and ongoing bugs.
Someday I might return to SWG because I think it has potential. But not in the state it is in right now.
I'll be following Gamespy's reports to see if/when it is worth to come back.
In the meantime I can reccomend DAoC as a good alternative for a mmorpg. Especially with the new expansion, Trials of Atlantis, comming out.
I've beta-tested it and it's very stable and will make a nice addition. Not sci-fi like SWG but the best game in it's genre I've seen up to date. |

I'm still upset I paid for the beta. I was waiting for a long time for a good new MMORPG to play, and so I was upset that way too.
I just recently went back into DAoC to try a new class. I guess I'm waiting for Eq2 or WoW or whatever comes out first. |

I was in beta, but i never bought the game because of the same things you are quiting it for. I got caught up in the mega hype and was drooling all over the SWG game until i logged into the beta and figured out that its garbage. Admittedly it might have potential, but i dont have faith in the game (or the designers) like i used to have, so i highly doubt i would give it a second chance. |
