Praise the Sleeper, what an utterly fantastic game !!! Easily one of my favourite games that I personally have ever played.
For whatever reason I rarely ever finish a game. So when I do my friends usually take notice as they know, from years of experience, what I'm like. I finished Planescape: Torment. I finished Gothic. In fact I have played nothing but Gothic for the past several weeks.
I don't think I ever stopped going "Whoooo" at the graphics and scenery. The design of the landscape is second to none. Some TombRaider moments are good, but walking out of the Sect chief's cave to see the forest structures in the Sect Camp, or walking up to the inner Sleeper Temple for the first time. Jaw dropping. Get up high just about anywhere and I never ceased to walk to the edge of a cliff-face just to have a look.
The environment, the mapping, the balance, all superb. And the story.
!! Spoiler Alert !!
Well, I thought it went a little off-piste inside the Orc Temple (did somebody say TombRaider?! , but I was floored when I returned to the Fire Mages at the start of, umm, Chapter 4 I think, to find out what had happened in the Old Camp. Talk about major plot events !
I think the ending was a bit sudden. It would have been nice to see the aftermath of the barrier going down.
-- End Spoiler Alert --
Truly outstanding. I can only hope for more games with this level of environmental interaction, exploration, mostly free-form progression, plot, characters and voice acting.
I especially liked Diego. He was my best mate.

I agree wholeheartedly. One of the best games in the last few years (but did anybody expect me to say something else? )...

I don't think the ending was too bad, just a little too anticlimactic for my taste.

POTENTIAL SPOILER WARNING
Even an AVI of everybody you'd 'got to know' doing something after the barrier went down, or maybe something of the barrier disappearing itself. A voiceover and then the end credits... I *really* wanted to see the reactions of some of the major NPCs.
But maybe that's for G2.

Same here, but we *might* see that in Gothic 2 which takes place in Mortana after the barrier is down(I think it is after the barrier is down - might also be before). |
