Tristania - Widow's Weeds

-Alice in Chains is one of those bands that I didnt give a chance at first, as shallow as it sounds, because of the name of the band turned me off. It sounded like a glam rock band or something, I dont know. But when I finally gave them a serious listen one day, I was totally blown away. The harmonization (is that a word?) of the vocals is just awesome, the only other band Ive heard harmonize so well is Queen. Alice is (was?) one of those bands that you just know it's them 5 seconds into the song, they definitely have their own sound thanks to of course the doomed Layne Staleys agonized voice, but also Jerry Cantrells telltale guitar stylings.

Although all their stuff is fair to good, "Dirt" is the definitive AIC release IMHO, not a bad song on it. Swinging back and forth from a heavy rock/metal to total doom style, then wrapping it up with one of my favorite alt rock songs of all time "Would", Dirt is one ass-kicking cd from start to finish.

Oh man, now I got to fire up "Dirt"....

Wow. I cannot believe you are just now getting into them! I've been a fan since 1992 and the Dirt album.

You should definitely see Jerry Cantrell live and purchase his albums also. His 2CD "Degradation Trip" is very dark and similar to Dirt. He played guitars and did backing vocals on all the AinC records.

Currently spinning Der Blutharsch - Der Sieg des Lichtes ist des Lebens Heil

Der Blutharsch is one of the best bands I've discovered lately, I just wishe they named their tunes instead of just numbering them... with 8 albums it becomes beyound confusing...

Black Sabbath by Type O Negative

I always liked their gloominess.

Battlelore - Raging Goblin
This is like the only band that can get away with a song called "Raging Goblin"

It's cool tho, I like it, Ive grown to like Battlelore quite a bit. My favorite song and video(i havent had a "fave video" in years) for a few weeks now has been their "Journey to Undying Lands". It's corny as hell and I love every second of it!
"Journey to Undying Lands" video

Kengo- I didnt just get into them, I checked them about around the time "Grind" came out. Of the side projects, I havent checked out Jerry Cantrell, but I did check out Mad Season's "Above" (which has a cool cover as well), which featurd I dunno a bunch of grunge-types, but Layne Staley was the vocals. Youre missing out if you liked AIC but havent checked out Mad Season IMHO.

Hey Sammy and Val, see what you think of this one:

"All Doves Grey" by Ether Aura

Kinda a neat mix of goth and shoegaze with some 80s sensibilities thrown in. All three tracks at the link have something to offer.

Hmm... pretty good. $10 for their album is tempting.

@Sammy- I thought it might be a little too pretty for you, but decided to toss it out there anyway

@Val- payment for twisting my arm on Evanescence...

"About You" is actually the track making the rounds in my circles, but I think I like their other stuff as much or more. I'll probably tack it on my next order.

Bah, you liked it, admit it!

Lazarus OST
If I can't play the game and do homework at the same time, then at least I can listen to the soundtrack!
