cast offs?

Can anyone tell me anything about any of the characters Gothic, or rather the characters that arent in Gothic that have scripted actions but aren't automatically inserted in a new game? I mean characters like the Blackmailer, Wendel, and the guards/diggers which appear to be bound to no specific location on any of the maps. I wonder if there's some way to edit them in such a way as to make them part of the game again?? Any input would be nice.
