A question

Hi a newbie here. I would like to know if a (-) negative initiative or to hit is better than (+) positive? For eg. I have a short bow and a light crossbow. The light crossbow has an initiative of -3. So is the light crossbow better than the shortbow? Thanks.

Pluses are always bettern than minuses, even for AC. So you will have quicker initiative with the short bow than the light crossbow.

And welcome to the boards!

In Wizardry games pluses are better. As a rule they are in most RPGs out there. It's funny that you ask it - you must have some experience in D&D games Minuses there are sometimes better (THAC0 etc.)

There's a lot of stuff to compare between weapons; if one does more damage but is harder or slower to use, or maybe one has more chance to kill or KO....
Another thing about initiative: you can get more shots per round sooner if the weapon (and/or character) is faster!

Thanks

Hi everyone. Thank you for the reply. Yup I know some basic rules on D&D. I used to play Baldur's Gate games . Did anyone play BG games here?
Some ramblings here.. I think the Wizardry 8 intro is really bad. The intro runs on 640x480 if im not wrong here. And the screen is not centre but shifted to the side.
Surprisingly, I found the gameplay of Wizardry 8 simpy remarkable. Not really bad at all. The graphics are even better than Might and Magic IX although not state of the art.

Definitely. Not the prettiest, but one of the most enjoyable...

I played the BG games. Great games but a lot different from Wizardry. Wizardry is a lot of fun despite it not having the latest graphics.

I play and enjoy almost all D&D games. Now I'm even finishing Pool of Radiance: RoMD and being intensively flamed for this Baldur's Gate is among my favorites. I also play PnP D&D games and enjoy those, too.

Wizardry series are simply remarkable. I played Wiz7, then replayed it in Gold edition, then played Wiz8. I loved them. Very specific and interesting world, lots of peculiar monsters and character skills. I worship Wiz8 interface and tons of features it has. It's a dream came true.
