I really doubt that this is legal.
Good job anyway, I'm not using it, because I play the german Gold Edition and know the dialogs so well after playing it a dozen times that I don't need the english version anymore.

It's probably not *completely* legal. Its kind of a "soft" piracy. We all own legitimate copies of the German NOTR (and the English G2).

We could rationalize to ourselves that the original product was "defective" because it contained voice work that we couldn't understand. By downloading this voice "patch" we are now fixing a product we already paid for.

Well...that's one way it could be argued.

i have to agree whit that .. we already paid good money for the game as loyal gothic fan .. if jowood would consitter this piracy .. that baseicly means that they are trying to force us to pay for something again that we already got

im not really sure what to call it .. but so far i cant see anything wrong whit it .. but if its proven otherwise at some point im gonna have to take it down from my site as well

I don't see it as a piracy because quite frankly people have paid for notr allready and now they are simply localizing it for an an other language.Piranhas and Jowood have got their money, same goes with the actors.I can't see anyone losing in this situation(Expect the atari, but givesa flying f*** about them anyway )

Besides this is solely their own fault, because the were unskilled to release the damn game in english to all countries. What pretty_ugly did should have been jowood's duty.None of the official people are not even intrested to inform the fans about what is taking so long, it is no wonder that this happened.

I simply can not understan why is jowood holding the english add-on and not properly release it.I fail to see the logic behind this strategy.

Jowood should be thankfull to loyal gothic fans.I wonder how many people have bought notr because of these new translations.

This is sweet! Thank you!

Isnt there a way to rip the official english subtitles from the english addon? The translation mod is nice, but it would be even nicer to have Jowood's official subtitles.

Well, ill help the best I can...
The expansion videos are located in:

Gothic2\_work\Data\Video

I believe they are the files with the word "extro" in the filename.

As far as menus and dialog goes check in:

Gothic2\_work\Data\Scripts

Im guessing that overwirting these directories with the english versions of the files will change the menus as well as the dialog scripts.

As a test, could you post Gothic2\_work\Data\Scripts\_compiled\menu.dat from you english version?
Its only 126k and should allow the menu text to be translated.

If you want you could email it to me to test it.
timmyp@gmail.com

EDIT: This will indeed change the menus text. I just hex edited menu.dat and changed the first line in the german menu text from german to "New Game"

After looking at the translation mod with the gothicvdfs mod tool I have confirmed that for the rest of the translation to happen, we need the english version of the following files:

From \Gothic2\_work\Data\Scripts\_compiled
we need:

Menu.dat
Gothic.dat
OuInfo.inf

From \Gothic2\_work\Data\Scripts\Content\Cutscene
we need:

OU.bin
OU.csl

These files add up to about 26mb.

If you could please post these Pretty_ugly I will be forever in you debt. Or you could email them to me and I will post them for you.

Guys this is just an opinion and advise. It is great that you are trying to help our community, but I feel you should be much more careful. I am quite certain JW could come after you if they wished, so why chance it. There are other ways to make your work available. I'm NOT saying to do it, but others in the past have done similar things and made it available on something anonymous, like a torrent for example.

I reviewed the files as an educational experiment only, then deleted them. I just wanted to play with the mod tool

I would still buy the official English add-on anyway for a keep sake. This 'patch' allows us to play the game in our native tongue faster. Nothing wrong with that.

Why descriminate against us English speaking people?

Again, any true fan out there will still buy the add-on if the darn thing is ever made available to buy. So many people have moved on already to a new game.

Now as for them five files would be sweet to make a new translation patch for the German add-on....it would be much faster and most correct....

Grab the
Addon_Title.bik
portal_raven.bik
extro_raven.bik
Intro_Addon.bik
OreHeap.bik

files from the Gothic2\_work\Data\Video\ directory too. I've compared gothic 2 fresh and with the addon. These are the new video files.

Hopefully all this will complete the change over.

No, you donīt grab the videos and put them in the file. Check first if they need to be in English. If they have no text or if the text is unimportant then itīs not needed in a big translation mod because everybody who bought a German version already has them in German - and who didnīt buy TNotR definitely doesnīt need the videos.

Be careful not to create something which can be used by a pirate in combination with a ripped add-on.
