re: what in the name Gothic?

In the viewpoint of an american, I ought to say that the word gothic is not very expressive for a name of a game. We used to such name as diablo, warcraft, starcraft... Gothic does sound german though. As to the suggestions that the name gothic may derive from the architechture, it is debatable. For one thing, the chapel in the castle isn't gothic and the monastery has no gothic style in it either. The xardas tower may resemble a gothic style though...

Re: re: what in the name Gothic?

I am almost sure that this "gothic" refers to the germanic barbarian tribes of long ago, than the much more recent gothic architecture. And i think that the atmosphere of the game fully justifies that name. Most architecture really ressembles german dark age buildings.

Ya i agree with that, but it might also be that its style is Dark and mystical taking you into a different world of fantasy.

but still if u ask me the name could have came from the style and buildings also if u look a little bit closer at Old Camp castle and Xardas Towers + some bridges and some ruins they all pretty much in Gothic style + someone sayd that it can come from the dark age that is pretty much correct also if u look at the forrest it looks very old if u enter it u wont see much sky outside it + sometimes u can hear screams from catacolms etc
