yes, I know I've written something different in some topics, but I've changed my mind recently. I've been playing this game for last week. It's long, great and (much) more difficult than summoner and gothic taken together. Definitely worth of playing.

tip: don't play this game directly after summoner. take a break

Evil Islands is a stratetic RPG light game, with a lot of tough battles. Not everyones cup of tea, but I had some fun playing it!

My personal opinion is that Evil Islands sucks.

Little character interaction, repetitive combat, bad sound effects (I guess asking for a good stabbing sound with the dagger is too much), and that annoying run meter combined to make me return the game in about two days.

I just couldn't quite get into it the way I can with a really good RPG.

But if some like it, I guess it has a few good qualities. I just didn't happen to encounter many of them.

My grandpappy once told me:
Fool me once, shame on you
Fool me twice, shame on me
And my grandpappy didnt raise no fool
Plus, the EI CD is doing a great job as a coaster for my beer bottles, why ruin a good thing?

And yes, that RUN METER was the final straw for me too. After about 30 seconds of screen-staring and hard thinking...I uninstalled that crap.

Ok, so what do I like in EI:

- difficulty, this game is really tough, sneaking and backstabing play important role here. quite often you will think not "how to compete a quest" but "how to survive quest"

- lack of everything - money, weapon, armour, exp points. you are really happy when you get something new or buy it

- nice possibilites to create whatever you want from materials (different furs, clothes, leather, stones, metals, etc.) if you have blueprint. you can deconstruct everything you buy / get, upgrade and reconstruct it later

- nice spell construction, with ability to make triggered spells, continuos, enhanced with range, effect, duration etc. you can put spells in nay weapon / wand / armour if it has enough complexity and you use proper runes

- great 3d engine able to render large outdoors areas

- good music. I don't complain about sfx.

- nice plot, not very complicated but nice

- when you run you get tired with time (but you can enhance stamina with abilities or spells). a lot of people dislike it

- if you learn ability, next level of learnt one and ALL other abilites become more expensive. It makes abilities somehow inferior to skills (meele / magic / etc.). Skills don't make oher ones more expensive. Of course it's better to learn more expensive abilities first. Honestly I would like "stnadard" abilites. They could be more expensive to maintain difficulty level.

- you can beat this game playing alone or with party. depending on what you prefer. but party steals some of your exp points.

Shrapnel - play this game for few hours, complete some quests. If after completion you don't like it, you won't like it more later.

I played probably 5 or 10 hours into this game, and just got bored. This is just a rudimentary CRPG in my opinion, the designers made no effort in the 'style' department.

It's just a rough, crude CRPG bottom line. Reminds me of Soulbringer.

dude, exactly. The basics, thats is all the game is offering the player.
Its like this game was done by some junior-game makers as their final project in game-maker school or something.
You have movement, you have navigation, you have a large objective and some small objectives and you can manipulate your inventory.
hehe, that is how the game description on the back of the box should have read, would have saved myself 20 bucks

Evil Islands is from the same producers (Nival Entertainment) that programmed Rage of Mages I und II (Evil Islands in 2d). These guys know how to make great games there are no 'hobby programmers'. But as always it is matter of taste, if you like a game or not.

I liked Rage of Mages quite a bit, but I think this group took a step backwards with Evil Islands, in my opinion....

Soltys, another thing I liked about Evil Islands was making custom magic items(such as armor that could heal you during combat) and the fact when you cast a strength spell on someone, they physically got bigger and more muscular. Was a really nice touch.

Exactly ! I have armour with 7 heal spells. I'm at the beginning of third island. Anyway all spell / equipment building system is done very nicely. Btw, how long is third island in comparision to 1st and 2nd ?
